The Stone Roses

#1 Post by Bandit72 » Mon Oct 17, 2011 5:29 am

Well well, who would have thunk? I'm not too sure how many of you the other side of the atlantic care, but for you UK people I guess this is quite "big" in relation to an iconic band.

They were always shit live though that's the problem, but I think I would take a punt at going to see them again.

yes, this is really good news although I really wonder if Ian Brown can pull those songs off now.

big turnaround from John Squire .... if indeed it's really going to happen.

I will try to see them.

Didn't the lovely Artemis start this thread elsewhere on here? Not that i care about multiple threads, just thought i read it here over the weekend.

Personally, i've never been into them - we're talking many moons ago, but everyone at my school went nuts for them and wanted to join art class etc... it was a time when i was getting into Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr blah blah and it just didn't fit with what i was listening to. I learnt to appreciate them totally over the years but it's not something that i'd ever really stick on and listen to.

Pretty sure they'll make a fortune from touring next year though, so good luck to them.

Ah yes, found it, my apologies.

I never got into Sonic Youth or Dinosaur Jnr. I did have a big ear for early Indie stuff though, mainly these guys and the Charlatans.

Stone Roses were/are pretty popular here. In fact, tonight on CBC radio the reunion was mentioned. :yikes:

If they do an international tour I would get tickets for sure. Never saw them in their heyday.

I still listen to their CDs on a fairly regular basis...maybe every few months.

I've always liked Ian Brown. I'd see the Stone Roses.

I was surprised to learn that Ian had worked with one of the brothers from Oasis. I had thought there was animosity there as I think Ian once claimed the lead singer aped (pardon the pun) his look.

These guys were decent back in their day.

I'd much rather see a Smiths reunion though.

I was never a fan of The Smiths. It was too "angst" for me. Morrissey probably had/has the most depressing voice ever to go along with his dark lyrics. I think they were a band you were either really into or didn't like at all. There was no inbetween Saying that, I absolutely love How Soon Is Now.

I'll try and get tickets I think. I can always sell them for £785 on ebay if I can't go. It will be one of the most overhyped "live" comebacks ever. At least we get some new material from them. Good luck to them.

Full press conference.

At 10 minutes Ian talks about how no one in the world plays like them, ie the "original" line up. I would have to see that as a similar thing to the Jane's four.

I liked some of what the Stones Roses put out, and would probably see them if they played LA under the right circumstances. Someone on another board said the "Second Coming" album is basically just an overproduced stroll through The Cult's "Electric" album without the furry hat.

This is pretty funny. This BBC article hysterically paints the whole Acid House movement as some sort of near-satanic drug cult:

Sunday's sold out too! Been trying since 10 on a load of sites. Couldn't get one. 225,000 tickets in half an hour. Ridiculous!

I'm not paying over face value either.

KV, they are absolutely huge over here... the legacy of the debut album just goes on and on and on. I work in a large open plan office (for my sins) and it's all i've heard lads talking about all week. Plus i'm in the southern half of the UK... up north it's a different beast altogether.

No, because they are still together. The Charlies are my favourite UK band ever.
