you still could have him but the lakers backed out of the second deal.kv wrote:great a bunch of bigs and no pg once again sigh...plus we are being forced to trade odom because of the stern bullshit we should have had cp3 and dh...fucking bullshit
instead they decide to give a quality big man to the team that swept them in the conference finals.
Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
Someone explain to me why James and Bosh were allowed to go to the Heat, but this Chris Paul guy wasn't allowed to go to the Lakers.
I don't really understand why one team is allowed to have 3 All-stars, but David Stern can prevent other teams from attempting the same thing.

because the nba bought the hornets (which should have never been allowed) so the other owners and stern have a say so in what the team does.Six7Six7 wrote:Someone explain to me why James and Bosh were allowed to go to the Heat, but this Chris Paul guy wasn't allowed to go to the Lakers.

“Commissioner,
It would be a travesty to allow the Lakers to acquire Chris Paul in the apparent trade being discussed.
This trade should go to a vote of the 29 owners of the Hornets.
Over the next three seasons this deal would save the Lakers approximately $20 million in salaries and approximately $21 million in luxury taxes. That $21 million goes to non-taxpaying teams and to fund revenue sharing.
I cannot remember ever seeing a trade where a team got by far the best player in the trade and saved over $40 million in the process. And it doesn’t appear that they would give up any draft picks, which might allow to later make a trade for Dwight Howard. (They would also get a large trade exception that would help them improve their team and/or eventually trade for Howard.) When the Lakers got Pau Gasol (at the time considered an extremely lopsided trade) they took on tens of millions in additional salary and luxury tax and they gave up a number of prospects (one in Marc Gasol who may become a max-salary player).
I just don’t see how we can allow this trade to happen.
I know the vast majority of owners feel the same way that I do.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?
Please advise….

basicly the league doesn't want us to get under the cap because then they lose the fine money fucking joke
EDIT THE SECOND TRADE OFFER WAS ALSO REJECTED BY THE LEAGUE SO THE LAKERS SAID FUCK YOU AND PULLED OUT OF TRADE TALKS SUE THE FUCK OUT OF THEM THIS IS SO FUCKING WRONG
Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
Now they have given Odom to the Mavs for no fucking reason if they do not trade for Howard, no Howard they should have just left the team as is. This is stupid, Jimmy Buss needs to not be in control of basketball operations fucking moron.

Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
While I feel for the Blazers I have long talked about in these NBA threads how their training staff sucks, every player they have seems to have a knee injury and never recovers from it. At some point the training staff needs to be looked at.

So because the Hornets fucked up and can't stay afloat, all the players on the team are slaves in charge of making the team decent again?creep wrote:because the nba bought the hornets (which should have never been allowed) so the other owners and stern have a say so in what the team does.Six7Six7 wrote:Someone explain to me why James and Bosh were allowed to go to the Heat, but this Chris Paul guy wasn't allowed to go to the Lakers.

Sounds kind of illegal to me.
Responsibility starts at the top, not at the bottom.
Players make their money based on their talent. They win championships based on their ability to combine those talents with others who compliment them.
To take away money from someone, and to take away their ability to win a championship, is going 100% against what the league is about to begin with.

these players are under contract and should have no say so in where they play until they are a free agent. boo hoo chris paul is forced to make his millions with a playoff team not in los angeles.
Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
They're not slaves but the thing is if Paul walks and can not get traded to a team he wants to actually play for he has to take a lot less money when if he is traded the Hornets can get something for him and then he gets to go where he wants. Not his fault the team had shitty ownership. It's win / win the issue is that the owners are pissed that the superstar players don't want to play for their teams.
If they run things like OKC or SAS the small markets can keep their players. If not then we're stuck with the teams losing their free agents.

This is why Cleveland will never win anything ever. Every sports team in this city will end up with a superstar, the superstar will ask for the money they deserve, and instead of pay it to him to continue success... the just trade them away for 3 mediocre players who cost the same. They never win any games, thus don't make any money, thus don't have the money to spend on their superstars.
You need to spend money to make money. You can't just pay 1/2 the going rate for one of the best people in the league and expect him to stick around and want to win for you. Dan Gilbert is always so shocked that he can't get anyone to come here, even though he's more interested in dumping money into his shitty casino than into actually getting talent who isn't 5 years past their prime.
"Boo hoo, it's unfair that the best players go where they actually get paid"
Fuck you Dan, pony up the fucking money and you'll make it back 20 times over in ticket sales alone. Empty seats aren't doing anyone any good. No one wants to come see an over-the-hill veteran that you "got a deal on". They want to see the guy you just gave an 80 million dollar contract to doing backflips over the poor saps making the league minimum playing for the Vancouver Grizzlies (are they still a team?)
Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
Well he would have paid Lebron the problem is most owners outside of the Lakers and Celtics do not want to spend on more than one player and like you said you have to spend money to make money.
Most owners bought their team as a business venture and rightfully so but they don't get that unlike their board room world its basically impossible to cut costs in NBA and still field a team to compete for a title.

Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
Just realized the Lakers have two TPE's that they can use as well, they have the one they just got for Odom and then they have Sasha's as well which is about 6 million. With Dallas trying to get rid of Corey Brewer I would like to see the Lakers pick him up. One of the best defenders in the league and very athletic and is a slasher would be a great addition to the second unit.
All of this is if they don't land Howard. Which I doubt they will Jimmy Buss has a hard on for Bynum and appears he doesn't want to part ways with him which is fucking stupid as Howard is a far better player and will get the Lakeshow 23/15/3 a game.. and he is always healthy.
But if Orlando says we have to get rid of Gasol too then I don't think its worth it after thinking about it, KB and Gasol play very well off of each other.

So got rid of Odom and then signed McRoberts and Kapono giving us a solid back up for Pau and some much needed 3 point shooting.

Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
demarcus cousins is a smart man. he is also about 30lbs lighter this year. guaranteed allstar.
"I'm not taking jabs at anybody or anything like that," said the Kings second-year center, "but to me, that's all part of being a competitor, of being a part of this sport. If you're the star player of that team, you should want to continue.
"I mean, trying to join another - I mean, I'm not taking jabs at anybody - but to me that's kind of like taking the coward's way out. At the same time I respect you because you want to be a winner. But, me, being the type of person I am, I am wanting to lead my team. I want to stay with the group of guys I came in (into the league) with. I'm going to do what I gotta do to help my team win.
"I mean, that's how most of them (superstars) came up. They stuck with their teams til they got their chance. That's how I feel about it. Magic. Isiah Thomas .. I mean all those guys. They stuck with their teams."

Re: NBA 2011/12(?)
Actually I was looking into it and a player they might be interested in is Josh Smith and I think he would be a good fit and seems to be unhappy in Atlanta and that would be a great pick up.
As for Howard the only way that deal = chip is if they can keep Pau or get a good 4. Right now no matter how soft Gasol is there is no other 4 in the league that can do what he can do in the all around game including help defense and passing.

we will give up way too much to get howard and be in the same boat..missing a pg can get paul for less and improve ( and if you are teasing my wording )

Bynum will never stay healthy so trading him for another big so we're not left with Kobe / Paul and nothing up front would be wise
