Something new for 2023-24.

In-Season Tournament.

https://www.nba.com/news/in-season-tournament-101

For years, NBA commissioner Adam Silver has expressed his desire to add an In-Season Tournament to the league's calendar. He finally got his wish.

As part of the most recent collective bargaining negotiations, the NBA and its players agreed to introduce the first-ever In-Season Tournament during the 2023-24 campaign. The league took elements from European soccer tournaments in order to bring more excitement to the regular season.

So, how will this new competition work? Here's a breakdown of what to expect from the 2023 In-Season Tournament.

NBA In-Season Tournament format
The most recent collective bargaining agreement includes an explanation of the In-Season Tournament format:

The NBA In-Season Tournament is split into two stages: the group stage and knockout stage.
All 30 teams participate in the group stage, and each team plays a total of four group stage games.
There will be six total groups in the group stage (three per conference). Each group will have five teams, and those teams will be placed into groups via random drawings.
The six group stage winners will move on to the knockout stage. The two "wild card" teams (one per conference) that had the highest winning percentages but finished second in the group standings will also advance to the knockout stage.
Each game of the knockout stage will be an elimination game, meaning the winners will advance to the next round and the losers will be eliminated from the In-Season Tournament.
The semifinal games and championship game will be held at a neutral site. Each In-Season Tournament game other than the championship game will be considered a regular season game.
NBA In-Season Tournament schedule
Start date: Nov. 3, 2023
End date: Dec. 9, 2023
The NBA has not yet released the full schedule for the In-Season Tournament, but games will take place during the first two months of the regular season, per the collective bargaining agreement.

Group stage games will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays in November. The knockout stage will begin in early December, and the "Final Four" will take place on Dec. 7 and 9 in Las Vegas.

This seems like a solid opportunity to name something after Michael Jordan.

They need to name it after Dennis Rodman as a tribute to his 48 hour Vegas trip during the 97 or 98 finals (can’t remember which one that was)- Rodman Cup

Have you been watching the women's world cup? Dennis's daughter Trinity is on that team and plays a lot.

From what I gather though Dennis was kind of a dead-beat Dad. It's not really very surprising

When Trinity's contract was awarded in the NWSL, she was the highest paid player in it.

Understood. I have always despised Harden. The list of offenses is really long and really shitty, but calling the dude out at a kid's camp is just so him....entitled spoiled despicable human being. Fuck em in the ass with the empire state building. :agree:

@ SR! It's true though! Harden is toxic. Nick Nurse is going to have a challenging start with team drama.

I'm looking forward to the Raptors season with new coach, Darko Rajakovic, and some new players. Hope we don't lose Siakam and OG.

The NBA always delivers. I gotta read up on the goings on in Toronto. Just a great franchise that always contributes positively to the game. As for us, I have some really mixed feeling on KP. That dude better deliver for what we sacrificed. I may be a Griz fan on 11/19.

I've only been able to watch recaps so far, but Canada is doing well so far! Hoping to watch them play Spain tomorrow.

Team Canada moving on to the semis against Serbia.

I thought Slovenia was going to win today, but clearly they were too distracted by all the ref calls and complained non-stop.

I was not expecting the news about Lillard going to the Bucks! It's a good move for him to go there. A realistic chance to finally get a ring.

Certainly stirs the pot. Makes me miss Gamechanger more. Not feelin the potential Brogdon/Timelord offer for Holiday. Horford is spent and Williams d ability is off the chain, but then again could be hampered by Joe's insane rotation decisions favoring O at all cost. This year is going to determine if this core will stay intact. As always, going into the season there is so much to consider.
