Black Sabbath Reunion

#1 Post by Larry B. » Fri Nov 11, 2011 2:05 pm

Recently announced: new album (produced by Rick Robin) and 'World Tour'. First show should be Download Festival, England, June 8-10, 2012.
If they come to Chile, I'd go...

Excellent.

Unfortunately, saying the new album is "produced by Rick Rubin" does absolutely nothing for me these days. Hasn't since about 1995.

Noooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

i fucking hate those guys! Ozzy is just going to use it as an excuse to revive Ozzfest, and radio is going to get a bunch of new songs featuring his whiney geriatric ass, on top of playing the hell out of old Sabbath/Ozzy

This is the worst thing that's ever happened to music.

Not even interested.

The first Ozzy/Sabbath reunion shows and tour around '96 were pretty good as documented on the "Reunion" cd/dvd. But later tours at the end of the 90's when it was plugged into Ozzfest often ranged towards dreadful with Ozzy canceling left and right and cutting down the set to barely a dozen of the old burned out standards. From live clips from Ozzy's recent solo tour, he's doing a lot of lip syncing to either backing tracks or a hidden offstage 2nd singer. Otherwise it's the same old wandering back and forth onstage, throwing a bucket of water on the first few rows and warbling "I Love You All" in between songs.

And Ozzy isn't the only weak link - drummer Bill Ward's health has been shaky much of the last decade and he's a shadow of his former self. Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler still bring it - I saw the first "Heaven and Hell" tour w/Dio in 2007 and it was excellent and clips right up until Dio was too sick to perform proved Tony and Geezer were still solid.

It's coming to the point that sooner or later, someone in one of these bands that've been around for 30+ years doing their umteenth reunion is just gonna keel over from a heart attack onstage.

I really enjoyed the Dio reunion with Sabbath as Heaven & Hell, so I know the guys can still play. The weakest link will be Ozzy (the vocalist is always the weakest link it seems :eyes: ) so I'll just wait and see if he can still pull it off. I bet they'll make him sound good in the studio but as far as live shows go he'll be the dinosaur he already is. All I want is the good studio album. Zero interest in seeing the old men play live.

yeah exactly, his name isn't exactly synonomous with quality anymore.

actually maybe I should have shut the fuck up about this, cause I may be in over my head here. I just went to his wiki page and didn't find anything too embarrassing he'd produced, so ehm..... :hs: .. Kajicat, do you mind explaining what our point is?!

I'm just saying Rubin created some great stuff back in the day, but now it's like he just attaches his name to big name musicians and sits back and does nothing. He either hands the work off to one of his protege/apprentices or simply doesn't provide input like he use to, but rather just rides the wave of the accomplished musicians he's working with and trusts that they'll come up with something good on their own (which actually isn't a bad idea for some artists!).

I swear I remember hearing about him just walking by a band's room that he's the producer for and just popping his head in to say, "Sounds good guys!" and walks off. Having his name tacked on as a selling point in a press release just doesn't give me the jolt of enthusiasm it use to. I like a good deal of his work, but I think he isn't as involved in the process nowadays as he use to be when he was still trying to make a name for himself.

Actually, that is fairly accurate assessment. By the early 90s, Rubin became more of a "figurehead" than a producer; but he has always had great proteges/apprentices in his company. I certainly wouldn't suggest that Rick Rubin's name being attached to this project is a BAD thing.

Really? You don't like Sabbath?

I'm not the one to dictate what to listen to, but try to listen to Sabotage, if you haven't already.

I love Ozzy's singing and voice.

But a reunion and a world tour is not a good idea.

I saw them around '98 and already though: what sell outs. The drummer was already too old then. He just couldn't deliver the punch anymore. How will that be like now, 15 years later?

And Ozzy should just go to a retirement home or something.

Did you know that he empties buckets of water on himself on stage because he pees his pants on stage, you know, so people wouldn't notice the wet spot forming around his balls.

Well, as a matter of fact, I haven't.

If it weren't for mass porn on the internet, I wouldn't even know that existed.

Yes, there's truth to that myth!

I know, sometimes depending on the pairing of the man and women, time, alcohol consumed, need to fulfill other desires,(like getting a cold beer and pizza as soon as the guy gets his nut off) a women's orgasm may be way down the list below "I gotta get the fuck outta here before her boyfriend shows up." But yeah, chicks do have them things too. Depending on the woman (and the guy), it might be more work then fixing a broken pipe under the sink, but they're there to be had. And it can range from something as hard to notice as a douche chill to a combination of mistaking that the women was secretly pregnant and her water just broke and her thinking she just won the lottery.

So let me get this straight. People are complaining because the pioneers of heavy metal, Black Sabbath with all its original members, plan to record an album with legendary producer Rick Rubin?

This is the same board that actually praised the latest album by "Jane's Addiction", despite Eric Avery's absence and the band collaborating with a session bassist and an outside songwriter. You people are nuts. :lolol:
