JA Boards: A middle-aged perspective

In a couple of months I'll be 30. I've been visiting the wide range of JA-related boards since I was about 15 (1999.) I think some of you might have been 30 when I first arrived in this micro-world of ours. I consider myself one of 'the usual suspects' of these boards, even though I haven't been a real part of JA.org, Pete's Circle (is that the name?) and I never visited ANR's first version (I was on team Sonny :hehe: .) Some of the other regulars who are around my age are Hype and JSSD, and I think they came into the picture just one or two years after I did (my memory might be failing me here.)

Anyway, I was wondering what would happen if a few 16 year olds suddenly popped up here. Talking about philosophy, posting dumb shit and/or posting pictures of Perry sharing with us how awesome Perry is, that he's their hero and stuff like that.

I think I'd tell them they're stupid.

No idea why I'm posting this.

Man, you are getting old! :yikes:

I think you and Hype and JSSD should have an ANR 'Dirty Thirty' party.

At the moment, I think the youngest is cabangbang at 18.

I'm wrong cabang is 19. I think cabang starting posting when he( i think) was about 14 or somerthing like that. I have a memory of him saying he went to the first Janes's show with his parents or a friend's parents.

I think the trio of 27-29 (JSSD, Hype and yours truly) are quite stand up human beings, despite of our interaction with KV, The Creepster and most importantly, Dilla and Paints. If that didn't prepare us for the ups and downs of life, I don't know what will.

here's an amusing forum thread about how much Jane's Addiction sucks or does not suck.

I was 21 when I came across my first music forum (posted at first on a RHCP forum, we were mostly women, go figure :hehe:). That's going to be 18 years ago. Why are you calling yourself 'middle aged'?. I'm not calling myself that just yet!

I grew up on these boards. I was 20 when I first started posting. I'm 34 now. They've definitely had an influence on my life. Thickened my skin for sure. Influenced my sense of humor. Taught me how to be more logical. Showed me new music and ideas...

Man, I started out on Usenet newsgroups around late '94 which was about as "anything goes" as you can possibly get on the internet. People would post under their real names, regularly list personal contact info like phone numbers and home addresses. And the flame wars... ah, the epic flame wars.....

I definitely came on these boards. First posted when I was 11, pretending to be a father of an 11 year-old kid asking the board whether it was ok to take my 11 year-old son to a Jane's Addiction concert. I showed my dad the responses and he let my then 19 year-old brother take me. That was 10/20/2001 - my brother ended up getting married on 10/20/2012. I then posted pretending to be an 11 year-old pretending to have stolen his dad's password to complain about fans complaining  . No one believed I was 11. :lolol:

And here I am today, about to graduate law school and move to NYC. All thanks to you MFers.

To this day I am still unclear as to what a flame war is.

It's weird remembering that computers used to have to literally dial a phone number (what the fuck is a phone number?!) to get on the internet (you can be off the internet?), and now I get annoyed if my Netflix buffers at all.
