Re: Prince has died at 57
The hugely popular and acclaimed musician Prince has died at his home in Minnesota at the age of 57, his publicist has said.
Police were called to a medical emergency at his Paisley Park estate earlier on Thursday, US media reported. An investigation is underway.
Prince became a global superstar in the 1980s, with albums such as 1999, Purple Rain and Sign O' the Times.
He sold more than 100 million records during his career.

Wow, this is really sad news. Apparently, whatever illness or medical issue that forced his plane to make an emergency landing and get him to a hospital a few days ago was a lot more serious then it was let on.
Re: Prince has died at 57
One of the few artists I really wanted to see, but for a variety of reasons never did.

This just isn't right.

Re: Prince has died at 57
The news of Prince's death earlier today was a total shock.
When Prince owned a house in Toronto a friend and I found it and lurked around his property, hoping to catch a glimpse of him. #stalkers
Thanks for all the great music for so many years. From my teenage years until now, Prince has been a part of my musical life.

Re: Prince has died at 57
I only saw him once. In 1990 on his Batman tour and he didn't disappoint. I remember my only bugbear of the night was that it wasn't Sheila E. drumming. The ticket was £18, which in 1990 was WELL expensive. Who the hell is next?
Re: Prince has died at 57
Proper gutted with this one - what an artist. My wife is a huge fan, absolutely loves him. Saw him a bunch of times and his songs are still on in the house pretty frequently... my kids like loads of his songs. But then again, who doesn't.

Re: Prince has died at 57
I got to see Prince only twice.
First time was the infamous show in '81 when he opened for The Rolling Stones at the LA Coliseum. Comes out dressed in fishnet, doing his early James Brown funk rock almost instantly alienating the audience. As his set continues, trash (and oddly, a lot of shoes) start pelting the stage to the point it's just getting dangerous being up front, much less on stage. After a couple extended breaks and false starts a few songs into the set, Prince goes into an extended guitar jam that's actually pretty amazing but he's lost the crowd by now who are like sharks smelling blood in the water as his set draws to a abrupt end. It was pretty stunning seeing the reaction he got that day. I had never seen anyone get that level of negative feedback on a stage before, much less basically driven off the stage. Certainly not on the scale of a half-filled stadium crowd and to this day, never have again.
Second time I saw him was at the apex of the Purple Rain tour, the hieght of his popularity in 'rarly 85 at a multi-night stand at the LA Forum. It was a mind blowing show that included Bruce Springsteen and Madonna guesting on one song in the encore. I also remember being super impressed with Sheila E who not only opened with her own band but played with The Revolution for the long encores.

Turns out that Prince loved mustard.

7. MUSTARD.
When we say that mustard was one of Prince's favorite foods, we mean that mustard was REALLY (using all caps for emphasis, a la Prince) one of his favorite foods. At the time of Heavy Table's raid of the musician's fridge, Prince reportedly had 18 different kinds of mustard hanging out in his fridge, from German to Texan brands. "I don't collect it, but LOL yeah there's a lot in there," he wrote. "U gotta love mustard. The raspberry kind is the best. You wouldn't expect it but that's how it goes." If you say that's how it goes, Prince, then that's how it goes.

reports now are that he overdosed and that is why the plane landed. apparently it was opiates or heroin. he had to get the shot. crazy.Pandemonium wrote:Wow, this is really sad news. Re: Prince has died at 57
wow that's really surprising if it's true. i've never heard or read anything about Prince being a drinker or into drugs. he comes across as a really disciplined and controlled person for that sort of thing.creep wrote:reports now are that he overdosed and that is why the plane landed. apparently it was opiates or heroin. he had to get the shot. crazy.Pandemonium wrote:Wow, this is really sad news. Hearing drugs too, but kinda makes since over the flu. Especially since he did a show a couple of days post recent hospital stay. Doesn't take away from the talent either way.

From late in the afternoon at Prince's house;
Re: Prince has died at 57
The story I'm seeing around is that he needed hip replacement surgery.
So he had been self medicating because being a Jehovah's Witness he wouldn't get the surgery needed due to their stance against blood transfusions.

Re: Prince has died at 57
Yesterday on Reddit they were talking about a "blind news" or something from a tabloid, from a couple of years ago, something like "a very famous and beloved African-American celebrity who contracted AIDS in the 70s/80s and who had been taking his medications RELIGIOUSLY [caps on the original, which I assume was a hint to the religious stuff Prince kept going about], has stopped taking his medication because his religious friends convinced him that God had cured him. We cannot say who it is, but it's not [some basketball player whose name I can't remember]"
So I don't know... reports coming in yesterday were talking about Prince having flu and becoming more seriously ill as the days went by.

didn't i read that he played a show just a couple days ago?Larry B. wrote: So I don't know... reports coming in yesterday were talking about Prince having flu and becoming more seriously ill as the days went by.
the hip surgery/pain meds thing makes sense to me. he is a small guy. probably doesn't take much to overdo it.
Re: Prince has died at 57
if he died from that and not heroin you would think he had incompetent doctors who didn't advice him very well. Seems unlikely, a guy like Prince of course has the best medical team on the planet
