The Most Commonly Misspelled Word in Every State, According to Google

The words that still trip us up

With features like autocorrect and spell check built into our computers, we can learn how to spell any word almost instantly. But that hasn’t stopped us from using Google.

Google crunched data from its search engine to put together this map that shows which spellings people search for the most frequently in each state. Several of the terms appear more than once, such as “desert,” “cancelled,” and “vacuum.”

The chart coincides with with round four of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, which took place on Thursday.

i always spell definitely wrong. i actually just spelled it wrong typing this but auto correct saved me again. i spell it "definately". not sure why i can never get it right.

some of those words are odd. how many times in your life do you have to spell diarrhea or leprechaun? by the way i spelled both those words wrong too. :dunce:

Australian Cockney rhyming slang?
(Septic tank = yank btw)

Actually a lot of our language is from when the Normans invaded and a desire to sound sophisticated like what the French were..

Not Cockney, but yes to the rest. Though I can't remember the last time I've heard someone use rhyming slang in an actual conversation. I don't think it's really a thing anymore, except maybe in true rural areas.

I use it occasionally.

"Look at the Bristols on that!"

"Would you adam and eve it"

"My plates are killing me"

etc...

It's probably more common than you think. Well, in the UK anyway.

It always amazes me how offensive calling someone a "berk" really is

Berk = Berkeley hunt (cunt)

Must be over there, over here it's not really heard much any more. Not in hip urban areas, anyway..

That's my word too! I'm so off that auto correct usually fills in defiantly.
