Status Quo guitarist Rick Parfitt has died after suffering from a severe infection at the age of 68, his manager has said.
The veteran musician was taken into hospital in Marbella, Spain, on Thursday evening due to complications with a pre-existing shoulder injury.
He died there at lunchtime on Saturday, his manager and family said in a statement.

Re: The Dead Musicians thread
George Michael has apparently died due to complications from HIV.
Re: The Dead Musicians thread
fuck, I didn't even know he had HIV...RIP
Re: The Dead Musicians thread
Such an incredible voice. I had no idea that he was ill.
This has me more upset than either Prince or Bowie. Feel like I've been kicked in the chest
Re: The Dead Musicians thread
Huge talent and everywhere during my HS years especially when socializing with the young ladies. Someone, please lock up Froosh and Springsteen before new years.

Never a big fan but I thought he would have been an excellent choice to front Queen after Mercury died.SR wrote:

Agree with you, Panda. George Michael would have been a great choice to front Queen.
I have to admit I was a little more upset about GM's death than I thought I would be. I wasn't a huge but his music was with me in some way since my high school years when I first heard WHAM. SR said mentioned something something similar on his FB page this evening. I was surprised to hear he was only 53 which is way too young! He was a great talent for sure. RIP George...

Soul Free is one of my fave tunes of his. I love when he hits the high notes in this song. If I had a penis, I would surely have a boner. From Songfacts:
George Michael has died at age 53 - few details available. Like Prince, he was an extraordinary songwriter and performer who changed attitudes about sex and celebrity in the '80s.
He was huge: in 1984 he had a jaunty #1 with Wham ("Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go"), followed by two more mature #1s in 1985 as he shifted to solo work: "Everything She Wants" and "Careless Whisper."
Faith was the best-selling album of 1988, and the title track was the top single. Along the way, the brought Aretha Franklin back to #1 with "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)" and released the monogamy anthem "I Want Your Sex," a song so good, radio and MTV had to play it despite the title.
"One More Try," "Father Figure" and "Monkey" were all #1 hits in 1988, and "Praying For Time" hit the top in 1990. In 1992 it was back to #1 with an Elton John duet: "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me."
That's just in America. In his native UK, he was even more popular: he was the most-played artist on British radio from 1984-2004.

I haven't heard anyone confirm he had HIVPandemonium wrote:George Michael has apparently died due to complications from HIV.

No, I haven't either, but I had to laugh as his manager said he died from heart failure.....EVERYBODY dies from heart failure.

Re: The Dead Musicians thread
Could be a cover-up, I suppose. The guy lived a privileged lifestyle and was fit, I guess, so to have a heart attack at 53 seems weird. But it could certainly happen.SR wrote: No, I haven't either, but I had to laugh as his manager said he died from heart failure.....EVERYBODY dies from heart failure.
Gordon Gekko's father died of a heart attack and he was only 49, so there you go...
Re: The Dead Musicians thread
Two of my uncles(my mom's brothers) died of heart attacks in their 40s. One was fit, but the other one smoked, drank too much, ate too much, overweight.
Unrelated to GM's cause of death, I had a laugh with this James Corden vid.

Re: The Dead Musicians thread
I heard 'heart failure', not a heart attack....the former always causes death; the latter doesn't.
He certainly appeared fit, but he had his bouts with real misbehavior....coke, alc, etc. He was in a three week coma few years ago suffered during a pneumonia. Seems that his immune system was weak, but like you said, I have seen no reports it was HIV related.

Re: The Dead Musicians thread
apparently he had weight issues lately. doesn't look like someone with hiv.
Re: The Dead Musicians thread
Wow, unrecognizable.
Re: The Dead Musicians thread
Still top news bulletin in the U.K. My brother went to see WHAM when he was 16 (1982) and I remember him telling me it was a great gig. I asked him about it last night actually and he still remembers it as his first ever gig.
There are also countless stories emerging about his generous, and mostly anonymous, charity donations and acts of good will (he'd worked in a homeless shelter helping out).
Pretty decent bloke by the sounds of it.
