Dave to record a new album
As per the last dark matter:
He went shopping for a piano with Todd, claimed he wanted to start writing as soon as he gets the piano in his living room, and he also already talked with his publisher about getting him in touch with a producer.
psyched!

Re: Dave to record a new album
finally some amazing news in this section
Re: Dave to record a new album
I would have the expectation for this to be from cool to really cool.
Re: Dave to record a new album
This is almost as exciting as when he said he was working on 2 albums five years ago.
Can't wait!

Re: Dave to record a new album
The years are really getting away from us here. I thought it was 5.
It's 8 years ago he said that:

I had as much faith in it happening back then as I do today, apparently.

Maybe he's actually been working, but just not gotten around to releasing.
If he actually releases 2 albums, i will eat a pear. and i hate pears.

I'm starting to get annoyed with how pessimistic I always am.
How the fuck have you people put up with this shit for so long?

8? This forum didn't exist 8 years ago and it says "2012" on the thread you link to. But when that's said I'm surprised it's 5. I would have bet my life it was no more than 2Six7Six7 wrote: It's 8 years ago he said that:

I have a lot of faith it'll happen, dude's buying a piano and is having meetings! That's action not just words. promising

No matter how badly these guys fuck up, I will always see potential in them. This could be good.
Re: Dave to record a new album
I'm not holding my breath that he ever releases something, and if he does, that it will be of any quality.
Re: Dave to record a new album
Since when does Dave play the piano?
Re: Dave to record a new album
Whoops. I saw that it said "Sep 09" and stopped reading.Matz wrote:8? This forum didn't exist 8 years ago and it says "2012" on the thread you link to.Six7Six7 wrote: It's 8 years ago he said that:

You can hear some of his fine work in Obvious.Mescal wrote:Since when does Dave play the piano?
Re: Dave to record a new album
That's what I always thought but I read something with Ron Champagne the other day where he said it could have been him or Dave Jerden.Larry B. wrote:You can hear some of his fine work in Obvious.Mescal wrote:Since when does Dave play the piano?
I remember Dave saying in an interview years ago that he'd had piano lessons as a child and that was where he'd learned all the music theory which he knows.
Also, I think he played keys on slow divers and I would for you on triple x???
Re: Dave to record a new album
Yeah, I was just messing around with my comment. I thought it was Perry... and I said it because it's just the same note being played over and over again.dannyboy wrote:That's what I always thought but I read something with Ron Champagne the other day where he said it could have been him or Dave Jerden.Larry B. wrote:You can hear some of his fine work in Obvious.Mescal wrote:Since when does Dave play the piano?

I'd imagine Dave has a basic understanding of playing the piano, meaning that he can play chords, play melodies with his right hand, he understands inversions, etc. And regarding music theory, he probably means major and minor scales, the pentatonic scale, and maybe the mixolidian and dorian modes. That's pretty much all you can hear in his music.
And by that, I mean that I wouldn't expect him to release intricate piano-based songs.
Re: Dave to record a new album
I'd rather it was a 4 song Janes EP. But Dave is definitely inspired by these Roger Waters shows so hopefully he gets working soon.

Dave said it's Perry doing the piano stuff on obvious in one of those ritual anniversary articles.

I'm sure I remember pictures of Dave noodling on a keyboard in the studio with Jane's, either during the Reznor sessions or during the making of TGEA, maybe both.
Re: Dave to record a new album
Not the Reznor sessions, but he fully took control of all the music on TGEA.panicparty wrote:I'm sure I remember pictures of Dave noodling on a keyboard in the studio with Jane's, either during the Reznor sessions or during the making of TGEA, maybe both.

...although they had to buy in songwriting talent from TV on the Radio. Which maybe doesn't bode well for Dave's solo outing.Six7Six7 wrote:Not the Reznor sessions, but he fully took control of all the music on TGEA.panicparty wrote:I'm sure I remember pictures of Dave noodling on a keyboard in the studio with Jane's, either during the Reznor sessions or during the making of TGEA, maybe both.
I have to say I'm pleasantly surprised by this, but definitely surprised - DN's given the impression the last few years that being a musician is, at best, a way to pay the bills rather than a passion or a calling. Even back when he directed that porno, there was an interview when he was talking about his passion for film and said something about how it was (making or consuming) what made him happy in the way that music "used to when he was younger" (I'm paraphrasing from dim memory rather than actually quoting) and all his more recent activities seem to bear that out.

Re: Dave to record a new album
Didn't Perry tell Rolling Stone that he (as in, "Jane's Addiction") had like 60 songs written for a new album like 3 years ago?

Expect more of "You do not have what it takes to be a solo artist...err, I mean, Ink Master."kv wrote:Much like 6767 said... don't hold your breath.. he's been talking of doing stuff forever..and it never comes to fruition... expect more of the same
