Opinions on Alive at 25 (Blu-Ray). Available to stream now

#1 Post by parklife03 » Fri Aug 04, 2017 12:21 pm

Well, the new live CD is available in Spotify, and the Blu-Ray, DVD and Vinyl version can be ordered in Amazon.

Here are my takes on the CD:

-"Live in NYC" sounded so much better. This sounds really compressed, mostly on drums. I still don't have the credits on who engineered and mixed this one.
-Perry Farrell's voice has been re-recorded in studio, or something. That's pretty obvious. But it sounds nice.
-The live keyboard is a nice addition on "Obvious", "Of course" and "Then she did". Good point.
-Some tracks are abruptly cut, at the very ending of them, like fading out before time. I hope that's only for the Spotify version. There are no Perry chattings either.

My review? 6.5 points. Nice addition for completists.
I would still prefer to listen to "Live in NYC", which has almost the same songs. That album was a mind blower for me, in terms of sound and live recording. This is just nice.

I only watch Jane's Addiction by accident these days.

But thanks for the review. I'm glad someone sat through it to give us the head's up :thumb:

Since it was free I watched it. On a modern day Perry scale he sounded pretty good and I could not see where any of the vocals were re-recorded.

I did hate how it was edited though. yes you have ten cameras we don't need fast edits all the way through. You get a one second shot and then on to the next shot.

Just try not to pay close attention to Perry's face and it's worth a watch. Everyone has Amazon Prime these days so it's free.

Watched it on prime. Pretty bad. Band interviews at the beginning are Cagney.

You know those breaks in the verse in no one's leaving? Like dave plays it one way the first time, and then another the second time before the instrumental chorus thing kicks in? He does them backwards here and I really think he just didn't give enough of a fuck to go back and listen to the record to get it right.

I watched it to about half way through obvious and lost interest. I doubt I'd of watched any if it wasn't on prime.

Isn't anyone going to back me up and say it wasn't that bad? Where is Bman?

Hey Creep. So I bought it. It came yesterday. I'll try to watch it tomorrow!

I don't have a ton of interest in it though after seeing the trailer.

I only watched the trailer.

Funny that they mostly use songs off Nothing's Shocking (and one from Strays) for a trailer that announces a Ritual live DVD

Haven't gotten around to watching it yet. I did listen to the CD in my car driving around a bit last night.

Stop is OK
No One's Leaving..not so good. As someone mentioned, Dave's opening chords seem off. The song just seems a lot slower than it should be.
Ain't No Right..not so good. Perry's voice mainly.
Obvious. I liked this one.
BCS. eh
3 Days. Good except for the terrible pheewwww sounds that 6767 also hates
Then She Did. Pretty good
Of Course..Pretty good
Classic Girl..Decent
Mnt song. is what is
Just B/C. I hate this song Just B/C.
Ted, eh.
Jane Says, haven't listened all the way through yet.

I agree with another poster, it's about two notches below the Live in NY cd. But it's a standard representation of a 2016/2017 Janes show. Basically, in person would be better. I'll listen a couple of more times and then put it away.

I'm watching on Prime now. It's OK. I just don't get the switch to B&W every so often it just looks shit.

I watched it this morning. Kinda boring. Perry wasn't on fire unfortunately! It's simply OK but I wont watch it again. The CD however is in my car and I'm enjoying it. B show for sure but I like Then She Did and Classic Girl a lot.

I like that it's in the original key, I HATE how they don't do the intro correctly. Pearl Jam did the same thing. That intro is like foreplay - makes the payoff when the verse rips in that much sweeter. However, interestingly enough, Eric seems to like it:

The one thing this video really indicates is that Jane's Addiction should have become a 2 guitar band a LONG time ago.

And no, this isn't my way of saying everyone needs to revisit the conversation about Pete almost joining in 1997. We know. You don't have to all talk about it for 3 pages for the 63rd time.

Anyone else find it interesting that Eric has been watching current day Jane's/Jane's related stuff on youtube? First the rebel rebel cover from last year, and now this.

I think it's just likely that people send it to him on social media, and comments on it before he receives it for the 87th time.

"Yeah guys, I saw it, thanks!" essentially.

It hasn't been mentioned here but apparently the Blu-ray audio is fucked up or someone wanted to save a few cents. Instead of a lossless audio track like the DTS-MA track the other two live Blu-rays have and just about *every* concert Blu-ray has, this one somehow only contains a lossy 384 Kbps Dolby Digital, the same surround track as from the DVD version.

Not sure who I feel more sorry for, the people in the crowd or the people who buy this release. Watched it on Amazon. The 3 Days drum solo part was cool. No "At this moment" intro. Synth violin in "Of Course" instead of a real violinist. Fake as Perry's current face. Lame. Couldn't help think I'd rather hear these songs sung by Scott Weiland, Chris Cornell, or Chester Bennington, but oh well.
