Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
My wife and I both had today off so we caught a matinee. I agree, it was a pretty enjoyable movie for what it is, easily the best of the Thor flicks. The thing that continues to impress me with the Marvel movies on a whole is they continue to kill it with great casting.Juana wrote:The new Thor was good for the comic movie
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
actually a pretty good review.Larry B. wrote:It's about a young guy who wears shades and is always listening to his iPod Classic, who drives a car for a band of criminals and is a terrific driver. According to the trailer, the guy finds a girlfriend and at some point the head cheese of the gang turns on him and threatens to kill his girlfriend if he doesn't keep driving for them.Bandit72 wrote:What's it about? All the 'critics' were raving about that film.Larry B. wrote:Just saw "Baby Driver". Well, the first 10 minutes, approximately.
Absolutely insufferable.
1/10.
All the characters were insufferable: after the opening scene in the movie, when they display how awesome a driver the young guy is, there is a long take of him going out to buy coffee, and he's dancing to some funky music, and bits of the lyrics are like written on the walls or light posts, and he's supposed to be funny because he's a bit clumsy and cool, and his name is 'Baby', so that's also funny I guess, and then once he comes back with the coffees to the gang, one of the criminals gets tough on him (out of absolutely nowhere, just so that the audience says 'I get it, he's the bully in the movie'), the head of the gang says "leave him alone", and the other two members are all over each other (so the audience thinks 'that's funny, they're really horny for each other'). At that point, we stopped watching. The characters were just too cartoony and the movie tried too hard to have a "cool" factor in the fact that there is loud, 'vintage' music playing for most of the movie and as a spectator you're supposed to find that really cool. Plus the shades and the iPod Classic = head blown with coolness.
i thought the flick was ok for a heist film, but i don't know why it was so lauded.
I just watched The Hateful 8. kinda slow in the beginning and long but i enjoyed it.

Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
I loved it
I found Kate's character very annoying, but when I feel very down, I love watching it.
I watched "While We're Young". I was a bit disappointed. I don't know if it's because I related a bit to it, but more like I could totally see my brother in Ben Stiller's character.

Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
Never heard of this film, but recognized the title's allusion to Pope, one of literatures most influential crossover influences between antiquity and modern lit....and most brilliant minds. It was said of Pope that at times he had to disconnect from Shakespeare entirely in order to write anything at all because the weight of shakes genius was that intimidating to him. Thanks for the heads up.
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
It's a movie by Michel Gondry. His films are amazing visually.

I'm with creep. It's bad. But I guess I can see why people might like it.
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
watched Ace Ventura for the billionth time, what a miracle of a movie
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
If you have Netflix you should watch Jim and Andy. Jim Carey is insane and was a nightmare to work with on the Andy Kaufman movie. Interesting stuff.Matz wrote:watched Ace Ventura for the billionth time, what a miracle of a movie
By the way...the only good Jim Carey movie was Dumb and Dumber.
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
looks interesting, thanks. I never knew he took things to that extreme.
interesting also how tastes differ, Dumb and Dumber is a kids movie to me

Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
My fave Jim Carey movie is The Cable Guy.
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
JIm Carey is not funny. He is a fucking prop comic and his prop is stupid facial expressions.
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
Saw Lady Bird this afternoon and really enjoyed it. .
The movie has nothing to do with Lyndon B. Johnson's wife, if that's what you were thinking.

I watched it tonight. I agree it was really good. What made it even better for me is it was it was filmed in Sacramento in the neighborhood I spent many years in. The writer has to be from here. The city is such a big part of the story.farrellgirl99 wrote:i also really enjoyed lady bird. funnier than i thought - great acting.Artemis wrote:Saw Lady Bird this afternoon and really enjoyed it. .

Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
what blew my mind is the girl who plays lady bird's best friend is jonah hill's sister!
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
Just watched this last night and thought it was pretty good. Way better than I expected. It's billed as a comedy but I didn't find the abuse she endured very funny. The actress who played the mother, Allison Janney, was excellent. I wanted to punch her in the face at times...brutal. I don't have any memory about Tanya's personal life, had no idea she had such a crappy family and married life.creep wrote: I, Tonya

I made it through about 20 minutes and I was bored. Maybe I didn't give it a chance.Artemis wrote:Just watched this last night and thought it was pretty good. Way better than I expected. I watched Three Billboards Outside Ebbing MO last night. It was good. They guy that wrote and directed it also did In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths which I also liked a lot. Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwell were really good in it.
Re: Movies or "the breakdown of jasper"
Has anyone watched Terrence Malick's "Song to Song"?
Great actors, boring as fuck movie. I'm afraid to watch "Knight of Cups" because it looks as deep (dull) as S2S. The only thing that saves both is Emmanuel Lubezki's cinematography. That guy is a fucking genius.
I did enjoy a lot another movie with Michael Fassbender. One of the best movies I've watched in a long time.
