RIP

Lot's of RIP'ing going on but didn't find a general thread for non musicians.

Tom Wolfe gone....a life well lived from all appearances......beautiful writing style. I read BotV when it came out; it was a "must read" that everyone was devouring.

Ha! A "friend" on fb marked himself safe from the royal wedding. There is obviously something I don't understand. So many get really involved in these. Years ago my mom did with Charles and Diana.

The weird thing is out of all the royals, I actually really like William and Harry. They honestly seem genuine and always have done. But I agree, I can't get excited about a wedding for two people I don't know. And I don't have much time for the Queen, Charles or any of the others. I just think the momarchy has become a tad outdated. :noclue:

Bah, humbug.

I was interested in the history and pageantry of it all. I wanted to see the inside of the church and the procession that followed (and of course the hats! ). I tuned in to BBC on Saturday morning.

Elin Manahan sang as the bride walked down the aisle:

Same here, chaos. Whatever one may think about the royal family and monarchy, I don't think there's denying that this wedding was glorious in every way.

Wartching that vid has got me blubbering again.. :nyrexall:

Queen Elizabeth is sending Meghan Markle back to school
Yahoo Canada Style Elizabeth Di Filippo 3 hours ago

Now that Meghan Markle is officially a member of the royal family, there are strict rules she has to adhere to as the Duchess of Sussex.

To make sure the former actress doesn’t bring shame upon the royal house of Windsor, Queen Elizabeth is ordering six months of training in royal protocol.

The Queen has entrusted her senior aide, Samantha Cohen, with the task of showing the Duchess the ropes, and has even relocated Cohen from Buckingham Palace to Kensington Palace to be closer to Markle.

According to a source, “It will be six months of listening. She is seeking out advice from a range of people. She is going to proceed with humility. It is not going to be quiet, though. It is going to be a very busy office. She has worked every day of her life. she is used to a demanding schedule.”

Cohen is said to be a no-nonsense instructor. Nicknamed, “Samantha the Panther,” Cohen is said to have worked closely with Markle to prepare her for the Buckingham Palace Garden Party celebrating Prince Charles’s 70th birthday.

Samantha the Panther bared her claws when she was tasked with planning a party at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the 200 most powerful women in Britain. Cohen reportedly snubbed British a-list celebrity, Victoria Beckham with the snipe, “being rich is not enough” to be invited to the party.

Be careful, Meghan!

Sad and surprised by the news of Anthony Bourdain's death this morning. I wasn't a huge fan, but I did like him. So, that's 2 suicides this week- Kate Spade a few days ago.

Yeah I always saw Anthony Bourdain as someone living an idealistic life, with a most interesting person in the room type vibe. His shows were cool for the exposure of cities outside the tourist areas, he really seemed to enjoy interacting with all walks of life. I wonder what he could have been going through that was so difficult to deal with.

Read Kitchen Confidential when it came out and his essays that preceded it....great read and was chuffed by the mention of Arizona 206 in the late chapter, Life of Brian. I was the GM there when the book came out and he was highly complimentary of the store. He was a good writer. I could always relate to the guy as one that requires very little in this world. I noticed he was addict thin in his recent IG pics. He was also dedicating an inordinate amount of time to the #metoo movement as his girlfriend was a Weinstein victim and his shame over how KC might have contributed tomisogynistic culture. Tox screen was clean; that surprised me,,,,I thought he;d gone back to heroin.
