David Bowie
Re: David Bowie
That was a great view. I wonder what movie inspired him to decline and say he wasn't made for these days.
Re: David Bowie
Questlove is out for the NY Bowie tribute shows. Not quite sure what to make of this as it seems petty all around.
The line-up mentioned seems least qualified to due this justice.

Re: David Bowie
Pretty shameful. I hope the English scene comes up with a proper tribute for their legend. Without pettiness nor Perry fucking Farrell.SR wrote:Questlove is out for the NY Bowie tribute shows. Not quite sure what to make of this as it seems petty all around.

Re: David Bowie
I agree. A friend of mine is/was the keyboardist for the Eagles. He said that they did a private party/show at the Forum for Glenn Frey. Stevie and JB were there among others, but he said it was really helpful and cathartic. Though I am not advocating a private show, nor saying that it's the only way to be authentic in tribute.....having these players almost certainly guarantees a less than sincere offering emotionally and artistically.Larry B. wrote:Pretty shameful. Re: David Bowie
I stand corrected. Terry Farrell will be there.......
On a more serious note, Bettye LaVette will reduce everyone to tears.

Re: David Bowie
I don't get it, why don't huge stars line up around the block wanting to pay tribute to Bowie? People like Bob Dylan, Keith Richards etc
Re: David Bowie
Yeah, like Gary Oldman. J/k....I don't understand it.....though II never got the Iggy thing, wtf is he? I wonder if Gail Ann Dorsey and Earl Slick will be there too.Matz wrote:I don't get it, why don't huge stars line up around the block wanting to pay tribute to Bowie? There are so many players absent. It's just creepy weird.

Re: David Bowie
this show was announced before he died. it was to be a tribute and it changed to a memorial.
the lineup doesn't do much for me. michael stipe is the only that i would be curious to see.

Re: David Bowie
Hmm. Didn't know that, but still. It's been months since his death. I would think that whatever motivated the tribute would have swelled in memorial.

Re: David Bowie
Coming up on the one year anniversary of Bowie's death. This is a rare clip from Bowie's stage performance in The Elephant Man from about late 1980:

Re: David Bowie
Just came across this in youtube land. I don't recall ever seeing this before..
The duet was recorded for American television on October 19, 1973 at the Marquee Club in London. The producer Burt Sugarman had approached Bowie about appearing on his late-night NBC program The Midnight Special. According to the Ziggy Stardust Companion, Bowie agreed to appear on the show after being granted complete artistic control for a one-hour special. He put together a cabaret-style show featuring himself and a couple of acts from the 1960s, performing on a futuristic set. Bowie called it “The 1980 Floor Show,” as a pun on the title of his song “1984,” which was played during the opening title sequence. Filming took place over two days. The audiences were composed of Bowie fan club members and other special guests. Due to the cramped quarters in the nightclub, the camera crew wasn’t able to cover more than two angles at any moment, so Bowie and the others had to play the same songs over and over.
On the day “I Got You Babe” was filmed, the musicians and crew worked for ten straight hours.
Faithfull was invited to appear on the show as one of the back-up acts, along with The Troggs and the “flamenco rock” group Carmen. At the very end of the evening, Bowie and Faithfull appeared onstage together–he in a red PVC outfit with black ostrich plumes (he called it his “Angel of Death” costume) and she in a nun’s habit that was, by more than one account, open in the back. “This isn’t anything serious,” Bowie reportedly told the audience. “It’s just a bit of fun. We’ve hardly even rehearsed it.”
Re: David Bowie
I read that "Final Act", the new doc on the making of Lazarus on stage and the album...his decision to stop treatments for C is a powerful watch and must see for DB fans.

Re: David Bowie
Ya, bump....because my kiddo introduced me to a drummer, Mark Guiliana recently who was the drummer on the Blackstar album so I went back to it....just fucking genius and fearlessness everywhere
Re: David Bowie
That album is fucking nuts, one of the best ever for me. The drumming is so from a different place.
Re: David Bowie
right, what a fuckin way to go out. Guy's the coolest of all time
Re: David Bowie
I was pleasantly surprised when I heard this cover of Heroes by the Hollywood Vampires(Johnny Depp, Alice Cooper, Joe Perry)
Johnny Depp is a pretty good singer.

Re: David Bowie
Yeah, so I was bangin around drummers after the talk of the NS album and drums. I was looking for a more than pocket type who's grooves actually added to the music without distraction. Denny Davis came to mind as I thought he was superior to Sterling Campbell and equal to Omar Hakim (within Bowie), and after being hijacked by Ronson for a minute, came upon this album. I had never heard it, nor heard of it. I'm drooling....the Santa Monica Civic would have been insane place to see him. It's like they're still working the songs out or fucked up or both.... RAW
Re: David Bowie
Your link didn't work, SR.
When I saw Kate Bush in 2014, Omar Hakim was the drummer for the 22 shows she did at the Hammersmith Apollo.
Here's a pic from the night I was the show. Omar is in the right of the frame, half cut off.
Photo quality is not good. I disobeyed the no photo rule and took a few pics quickly.
