Just wiki'd it...was only around from 77-85...was a scrambled UHF feed...forgot all about ON having sports but def remember kings and Lakers games now...plus concerts which I also forgot all about.... it's something our generation had that seems foreign to every gen after...pre cable, pre cell phone, pre internet, pre microwave...hell and watching flag colors to buy gas lol

Strange how old memories flood back stuff you've never thought of...I just remembered cursader rabbit cartoons on ON as well

We had this homeade box called On TV that my dad built after getting the blueprint somewhere. It would show 2 fairly recent new movies at night.

Just installed a new central air system at the house. Being without AC for almost 14 hours in the hill country heat is what the kids these days call "fucking brutal" luckily I had some spare window units so it wasn't as bad as it could have been but the rest of the house was in the 90s in the rooms without those units.

Ahhh, home video, circa 1980. My first VCR, mono sound, whopping 24 hour record timer, weighing about 30lbs. First few movies released on VHS or Beta costing $90 a tape. I was an early adopter to OnTV... that itty bitty wire antenna... the quality was pretty rough even for standard def tv. I remember hosting a big party in late ‘81 watching that Rolling Stones PPV concert where Keith smacked the stage crasher with his guitar during the encore.

I think they played music videos on there too sometimes. Devo's Whip It and Van Halen Pretty Woman are a couple videos I remember watching on there.

Did you guys ever hear about when someone hacked into a television broadcast of Doctor Who in Chicago back in the 80's?. I didn't see it happen but a friend of mine who loves Dr. Who did and he told me about it the next day. They never found out who did it.

Thinking back to the last time I saw Prince, he played no guitar at all during the show and played well past his time but in one of those encores he came back out and said "you know how many hits I got?!" standing on the side of the stage watching magic happen was amazing

Had a lovely Thanksgiving dinner this evening at an old friend'd place. Good food and friends...feeling stuffed now.
Tomorrow Thanksgiving dinner #2 with my mom. I'll be cooking the bird abd making an apple pie for dessert. My mother doesn't like pumpkin pie! Mon dieu, good thing I got my fix tonight.

Wow, I can't believe how visible and bright tonight's SpaceX launch was here in Huntington Beach about 200 miles south of Vandenberg where it was launched. I could see it clearly including the first stage separation and return to landing as the 2nd stage continued on to orbit. All this time, it's the first actual rocket launch I've personally seen even if it was 3 hours north of me.

I was able to see an early morning launch way up here a few months ago.

I watched this one on Youtube. It was pretty cool to see them land the first stage.

Last night (Friday) we had one of the best lightning storms I've ever seen here in SoCal. For whatever reasons, even mild lightning is rare here on the SoCal coast, maybe once every couple years usually in October we'll get a few flashes around a rain event. But last night at least in my area, it was an East Coast (not quite Florida) level storm, even the power went off for a short time. The only thing weird was there was very little thunder even when strikes were really close to my location. Here's a minutes' worth that I filmed out my window:

So, over the years my son's been in a few bands. He ended up in a Funk/R&B band that's been around forever and they are playing a 4 hour/50 song set tonight in Newport Beach....EW&F, Stevie, War, Pointer Sisters (Fire), John Mayer, etc. Lookin forward to it.

So my eldest niece made a very awesome video for her history class homework. I would have had a lot of fun if I could have done that at her age.
P.S. She used some of her family members names in the end credits (like mine, her cousin's and her grandparents')

So about a month ago, I noticed my dog Kahlua had chipped the probably the top 1/8th inch tip off of one of her lower canines. I could see the dark "pulp" in the center of the tooth. Long ago we stopped letting her play with stuff like cans and her metal bowls (see the video I posted last year in the dog thread) when it became obvious she could wreck her teeth being so crazy. But she still likes to sneak and grab large rocks and juggle 'em in in her mouth when no one's around. I've found golf ball sized rocks under my pillow.

So I took her to the vet who said she'd probably need the tooth capped and gave me the name of one of only two animal dentists locally that do such stuff. It took weeks to get in to see the guy and late last week, I finally got her looked at. Dentist tells me she'd likely need a root canal and crown depending on what an x-ray would show. The odds of infection already rotting out the inside of the tooth right up to the gum line was almost a certainty. The cost was going to be about $2,600. Luckily, my wife and I (ok, my wife suggested it and I said ok) got full coverage pet insurance when we got her and we'd only have to pay about 10% of the total but we'd still have to pay upfront the whole amount and wait about 2 months for the reimbursement.

So I take her in Monday morning for the procedure and late in the day I get the call to come and pick her up. Turns out her tooth has healed itself to a degree that the tip was sealed off, no infection at all and she didn't need a crown, much less a root canal. Total cost, about $300 (I'll get back about $270).

Didn't exactly make my day, but it was nice. Had an appt in Hollywood today and my nav system rerouted me through Wilton Pl....on the way back I put on some old demos and cruised by. It's a bitchin house notwithstanding the history.
