That One Time They Randomly Played In Standard Tuning Again (2014)

#1 Post by Noonesshocking » Wed May 01, 2019 8:42 am

What a difference. The songs sound like they have life again. I'd daresay it makes Perry sound... good? Check out his inflection at 3:00 during ANR. If only NINJA had been in standard tuning :noclue:

yeah, it's night and day, there is nothing exciting about a Jane's show tuned down, I dont care if Eric is there or not

What show was that again? Yeah it sounds good. Perry has Echo on his voice too which is absolutely needed.

A while ago I grabbed some NINJA soundboard audios and made them standard tuning with an audio software. Really enjoyable

I kinda wonder if they tried any songs above the drop tuning back in ‘08/‘09 besides summertime

I’d like to hear this

Actually, if you have the Camden NJ show, I’d like to hear it edited AND unedited

Here you have it! I did it with the concert from Sydney 2010. It obviously sounds strange and robotic, because it was done digitally. But it's a good idea of how it would have sounded. Perry's voice during every speech is like a chipmunk!

There are two versions: the 0.5% (half step up) and the 1% (a whole step up, this being far more extreme and matching the studio tuning).

This actually sounds really fucking cool holy shit. It sounds like it's from an alternate universe where the reunion was done 100% right ala Faith No More. Dave or Eric should hear this shit

Totally. I'm okay with the half-step down version anyways. I mean, sonically it sounds okey with that arrangement. But a whole step is a lot for EVERY band. Blondie is playing with A WHOLE AND A HALF step down!
I experienced that myself with Debbie's band and compared it with the studio version. Here's the video I recorded, it's almost a different song:

There are almost no "historical" bands playing in the same tuning as in studio, that's a fact.
And in some groups it's even cool when it's only a half step (meaning some metal bands, it gives a doomer spectrum if you want). But I've also seen Megadeth live like eight times, many of them playing a whole step down, and it was horrible. Literally, them were totally different songs. It's a shame.

I listened to the Gathering of the Vibes show again this weekend. So good. They jammed on so many songs since they had a 2 hour set to fill out!

I have to admit - there was a stretch in 2011 (spring through summer) where they sounded pretty good. Perry was singing instead of whispering. It pissed me off at the time because I was like "why couldn't they sound like that during NINJA with Eric? Gathering of the Vibes and that E3 show, for example, was decent.

They came to Argentina in 2011, 2012 and 2013. The 2011 and 2012 shows were really great. The 2013 one too, but Perry's voice was already slowing down
