Just started watching "The Boys" on Amazon Prime last night. For those unfamiliar, the concept is kind of like an even darker take of The Watchmen (movie) that focuses on the corporate aspect of franchising superheroes (think Disney -> Marvel Avengers) and the public's deification of them.

Big fan of writer/creator Garth Ennis who created Preacher (and The Boys) which I think was the greatest comic book series of the late 90’s but that tv show has mostly dropped the ball for a whole laundry list of reasons. The Boys comic series didn’t hit the same highs (especially emotionally) as Preacher but still had much to recommend it.

I caught the first episode last night and was pretty impressed. I'm not quite 100% on board with the casting of Hughie, but Butcher seems spot on and while not quite as outrageously over-the-top with the sex and violence as the comic (or Preacher comic/tv show), this series captures the overall tone of the comics very well.
I really enjoyed this show.

got through Mindhunter S2 in a couple days. I thought it was much better than S1. It focuses mostly on the Atlanta child murders.

I blew it watching it so fast. At least I still have Succession which just started up last week.

I started on Mindhunter last night. Agree that it's a notch up from the already excellent first season. I''m trying to ration out the few shows I'm currently watching (Mindhunter, The Boys, etc) so they'll last a month or two.

I finished MInhunter S2 last night. I enjoyed it, but I liked the first season better because it had more interviews. S2 had a couple of storylines that didn't seem to go anywhere. The show was shot beautifully, good direction and writing, superb musical selections. The first episode had a perfect opening song with Roxy Music's "In Every Dream Home a Heartache' and closing with Talking Heads 'The Overload'.

I recently watched Euphoria and really liked it except for the final episode.

Really looking forward to the final season of Power starting on 8/25. i think I'm the only one here who watches this show; I love it!

i thought the story line about the adopted sons involvement in that murder was unnecessary and boring and his wife was super annoying.

Yes, exactly what i think too. The other storyline was Dr Wendy Carr and her coming out and love interest. It bugged me also that she was relegated to analysis only. I guess the writers wanted to reveal more of the characters' personal lives which is fine if it actually helps the story.

So weird, I watched this yesterday as well. It was fairly scarey...it revealed the most* recent transformative consequenses, that are by now close to obsolete. I couldn't help ut think think that combined with AI, the multiple and unforseen consequenses will be harsh as we march "forward". I thought Brittany Kaiser was authentic and even as a really bright young woman, still bewildered by it all
Still, she did some really shitty stuff for money.
Anyway, I've binged last weekend Glow's latest season and I really enjoyed it. Looking forward to the next one.
Mindhunter was great. I was late getting into Poldark (british soapish show with a very cute guy) but I've been catching up with it.
Haven't watched the latest season of Handmaid's Tale. Has anyone? Do you recommend it?

Been watching 'On Becoming a God in Central Florida'

"Set in a small Orlando-adjacent town in 1992, this dark comedy series stars Kirsten Dunst as Krystal Stubbs, a minimum-wage water park employee who lies, schemes and cons her way up the ranks of Founders American Merchandise (FAM)—the cultish, flag-waving, multibillion-dollar pyramid scheme that drove her family to ruin in the first place. Determined to make a better life for herself, Krystal dives deep into FAM, until her business begins to affect those closest to her."

There's parts of Season 2 I really liked, and some parts that bugged me or I just couldn't connect with. One thing was having the huge coincidence of Tench's son's involvement with the child's murder which of course reflected on his evolving and more sympathetic views of other cases. The other was Dr Carr's character arc and how the whole lesbian plotline was kind of dropped in for PC reasons and then kind of petered out by the last few episodes. Ford really needed more nuance to his character this season. He needs to be more than a uber-passive Fox Mulder type to sustain interest going forward. A panic attack that was mostly a first episode gimmick didn't do it.

On the other hand, I liked all the loose ends left hanging for the Atlanta case. Holt McCallany as Tench and Cameron Britton (Kemper) are the shows MVPs. Despite my complaint about the son subplot, the slow breakdown of Tench's family in the last few episodes was heartbreaking. The Manson interview was great.

Overall, I really enjoyed this show. The wait for season 3 is gonna be brutal.

I saw the last 5 episodes of series 2 of Mindhunter and I quite enjoyed it.

But I’m just here to say that I find Stacey Roca exquisite. She’s Tench’s wife, and her face looked oddly familiar when I first saw her. Then, it clicked: I’d seen her (and drooled at her) in series 2 of The Office (UK.) She’s Martin Freeman’s love interest.

I just finished Netflix's Unbelievable. It was not what I expected; I'm glad I decided to give it a go. I got sucked right in. Strong acting and writing. The actress Kaitlyn Dever is phenomenal.

There are eight episodes, 45-60 minutes each.

“Unbelievable” is a riveting, suspenseful and often difficult–to–watch series that successfully tackles a relevant topic. Coming on the heels of the #MeToo movement, media like “Unbelievable,” which treats the aftermath of sexual assault with honesty and sensitivity, is integral to creating a society that both believes and respects victims.

I’m watching HBO’s “Succession”, about a Murdoch-like family and the family dynamics through a period where the father might step down and there are 4 grown up, rich sons and daughters in line to the throne.

Quite entertaining in general. Very Office-like in terms of direction, script and character features. I’d recommend giving it a go.

I had to listen to "This American Life" episode about this case. Her foster mom (the one who called the detective) sounds like a piece of shit. I don't know how the real Marie forgave her.

I watched El Camino tonight. It was pretty good but not much happened. It seemed like a regular breaking bad episode that should be followed by more episodes. :noclue:

fuck really?! I have been so looking forward to it.

Anyone here into West World? People say very good things about it and I'm thinking about buying the first two season. But I'm surprised that it hasn't been discussed here, is that because it actually sucks? :noclue:

I watched it on Saturday. I enjoyed it, however it had lost some of the classic Vince Gilligan camera work. Maybe it's a prequel to Season 6?

I also watched Joker at the cinema yesterday. Wasn't impressed at all...

I've been watching The Morning Show.
I found the first couple of episode a little on the weak side, but gets better.

Reese has an interview show on Netflix. Have been trying to watch it but have been binge watching other shows like "Atypical", "Insatiable", "The Politician" and "Queer Eye in Japan" (sweetest season ever). After the latest season of "The Crown" I'm going to give it a go.
