Laughing Beats - unreleased song

Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Nobody ever got some news about the two supposed P4P songs recorded with Mike Watt several years ago ?
Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Yeah whatever happened to those 2 songs! I think on was called Little Me.
Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Would prefer to hear ''Little Me'' n whatever else p4p may've recorded. ''Laughing beats'' sounds like some sort of Strays era outtake, Dave's playing is really mundane in that clip.
Re: Embrace the Darkness
yeah, with that in mind, why weren't Dan allowed to play more than 10 seconds of it? They act like they're U2 or something. Pretty funny.creep wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 6:59 pmlet's be realistic. no one really cares except for a few here.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 3:39 pmI also think we should try to get this news to places outside the forum. Re: Embrace the Darkness
They seem concerned about playing any vocals. I'm sure Perry has something to do with it. He probably doesn't want anything he created with Eric being public. You know he's petty as hell.Matz wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2020 11:49 amyeah, with that in mind, why weren't Dan allowed to play more than 10 seconds of it? They act like they're U2 or something. Laughing Beats = Embrace the Darkness. Dan just used the working title probably because that’s still what it’s called in his mind. EOD was 100% the only song completed, per the Sonny interview (I don’t feel like jumping through hoops to embed on mobile).

“I’ll Protect You” - the bassline ended up in Eric’s song “Beneath the Ground”, possibly along with Perkins’ drum track. There isn’t a third one. It was just those two that were worked on.

Pre Vocals:
Eric - hey guys this instrumental version sounds like old school Jane's. Let's call it Embrace the Darkness.
Post vocals:
Perry - hey guys I added my vocals and renamed it Laughing Beats!
Eric - I fucking quit

Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Does anyone else remember reading additional lyrics for this song besides the ones Perry tweeted in 2009? Something like "laughing beats crying"?

Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Man I really want to hear the whole song- especially the outro. I also want to hear Eric's approach on bass. Those ten seconds sound way more interesting than anything on TGEA and they might as well play the whole things at this point.

It's a cross between Underground, Price I Pay and Strays...
You gleaned that from a 10 second clip?

Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
There are two mentions of “Laughing Beats” from 2009 in Google... one from an anonymous comment on Eric’s old blogspot site (!?) and another from Rolling Stone.
Weird.
Weird.

It tells Eric that Jane’s should record different versions of their songs (e.g., Funky version, 5/7 version, Punk version) and mentions the song by its title. I’m not sure if Eric had mentioned it before, but he certainly didn’t mention it in the post that prompted that anonymous comment.

'So we started out with the idea of maybe write something with a jagged time signature, like 5/7 or something'
Why not record something like 3 versions of the same song. One version with an odd time signature(a la radiohead), one with the funky beat and one tribal. The Stones and the Beatles used to work that way. It makes sense if your going to release them song by song instead of a full length album. This way everyone in the band can have their say and the fans can pick and choose which version they like best.
For example
Track1 Laughing Beats(avery/navarro) odd time version
Track2 Laughing Beats(farrell) funky version
Track3 Laughing Beats(perkins) tribal version

Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
In retrospect its crazy they tried to write and finish a few songs in like 10 days. They should reappraise the music they had back then- they might have a better idea of how tackle those ideas now that 10 years have passed. Really into the idea of an odd time jane's tune.intertwoven wrote: ↑Wed Feb 12, 2020 9:42 amhttp://ericavery.blogspot.com/2009/03/c ... ither.html

Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Also Dan said on twitter those 10 seconds are all we're going to hear of the song... for now. Maybe there are plans to release the whole thing?
Re: Laughing Beats - unreleased song
Yeah, on Cabinet Of Curiosities pt2
With a remastered version of live at the Hollywood palladium

The outtakes from TGEA were surprising. Should have taken out the Duff contributions and put these in as complete songs.
