Sterling Spoon
Sterling Spoon
I bought the Sperling Spoon some time ago. I only bought it to have a great sounding live show of one of the greatest live bands (in their prime) on vinyl.
I actually only listened to it just now.
Members of Jane's Addiction, if you're reading this:
It sounds horrible, like a cheap bootleg. No dynamics whatsoever. What a disgrace. Making fans buy this ....
It's hard to put to words how dissapointed I am ...

Re: Sterling Spoon
Remind me, was this the NS or RDLH shows?
Re: Sterling Spoon
Oh buddy. You really expected better? These guys could not care less about their fans.Mescal wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 2:17 pmI bought the Sperling Spoon some time ago. I only bought it to have a great sounding live show of one of the greatest live bands (in their prime) on vinyl.

Re: Sterling Spoon
This was an early Ritual tour show, 12/19/1990 at the Hollywood Palladium. Here's my old ticket stub from that show....
BTW, there's a old bootleg CD I have called "Live And Insane" that arguably has better sound from the same master tape source that's missing at least one song (I haven't listened to it in literally decades).
Re: Sterling Spoon
That’s really sad, for some reason. Like opening an expensive bottle of wine you’ve kept for years and realising it’s become vinegar.
Re: Sterling Spoon
All they had to do was hire some sound guy, give him the multi tracks, let him mix and master it ...
How hard could it have been to make it a bit right? And that for the same live show they've been using since forever for all their scraping of the barrel releases.
I thought Dave was into hifi recently?
Well, I hope he puts on his own record ... IT SOUNDS LIKE CRAP
Seriously guys: You Suck! Last penny I ever spent on anything you put out
@Panda: I probably already knew this, but, so cool that you were there! Crappy recording, great show!

Re: Sterling Spoon
For a band that played a gazillion shows it's so embarrassing that the Hollywood Palladium show is the only show they continue to push out!

Re: Sterling Spoon
Can’t think of a band that has pissed on their legacy worse to be honest.
It really shouldn’t have been hard to keep the OG lineup together once everyone was over thirty years old. It really shouldn’t have been hard to make new music that was even somewhat worthy of the name. And most of all, it really should not be hard to put together respectable archival releases.
If I had to guess, Eric still cares but knows it’s just not worth the energy to fight for a decent sounding live show to come out when 2-3 other partners simply do not give a shit.

Re: Sterling Spoon
You bought a Petty era Jane's cash grab Botox special based on wax and a 30 year old boot everyone had 30 years ago?
You take the blame my friend...you knew full well by then...you got blinded by the shiny bling and old dreams...but Petty thanks you kindly! Maybe they bought those turtles with your money

Re: Sterling Spoon
The fact that Eric came back in 2009, after all those years, and they STILL fucked it all up is so ridiculous it's funny.Noonesshocking wrote: ↑Wed Apr 08, 2020 2:41 pmCan’t think of a band that has pissed on their legacy worse to be honest.

I can't take any of them very seriously any more or ever again.

What’s on it?
Edit. Never mind, googled it. Yawn.

Re: Sterling Spoon
Is the mix on Sterling Spoon different to the mix on Cabinet of Curiosities? I remember being disappointed they'd mixed it in stereo so you could only hear Eric in one ear and Dave in the otherPandemonium wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 5:23 pmThis was an early Ritual tour show, 12/19/1990 at the Hollywood Palladium. Re: Sterling Spoon
I'll have to listen to both releases as well as the old bootleg CD again to hear differences. Something to do late night after everyone goes beddy-bye. I wouldn't be surprised if the LP set of the show on the Sterling Spoon release isn't a direct digital port of the Cabinet CD master.
Re: Sterling Spoon
Well I didn't A/B the whole show, because, well, fuck Jane's Addiction, but I A/B'd Stopelbuitre wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:09 amIs the mix on Sterling Spoon different to the mix on Cabinet of Curiosities? The vinyl version sounds way more bass heavy, so if you want to hear more Eric ... but you can hardly hear Dave, he's buried somewhere.
Cd Cabinet version is better balanced imo, meaning more Dave. More highs.
In both cases Dave is on the left and Eric on the right.
Vinyl just sounds muddy and compressed
But again, I only listened to Stop

I have that Silver in a basement somewhere , along with 15-20 other Jane's Silvers. No idea where, like you said last listened to it 20 years ago, but remember really good quality recording and lots if Perry banter...
Re: Sterling Spoon
Listened to three days on the vinyl ....
Dave is almost non audible
