By the age of 12 I was pretty ahead of my time listening to what I still listen to now.
At the age of 8 it was...

Devo - Whip It
Rush - Temples of Syrinx
M - Pop Muzik
John Lennon - Watching the Wheels
The Police - Don't Stand

Honorable mention to AC/DC Dirty Deeds, Rush Tom Sawyer, Iron Maiden Run to the Hills, The Who You Better You Bet all which came a little later

:lolol:

My thoughts exactly

But

Queen - Bohemian rhapsody
Michael Jackson - something of Bad
John Miles - Music
John Bon Jovi - Living on a prayer or bad medecine
Europe - The final countdown
Cliff Richard & the young ones - Living Doll

I remember a lot of Madonna , maybe Live To Tell.

The song that sparked my real musical interest was Anarchy in the Uk by the Sex Pistols , but I've must have been 13 or 14

Let's see.. 1990, for me. Just before I started listening to the local alternative station ("91X: the cutting edge of rock").

Roxette - The Look
Paula Abdul - Knocked Out (or really that entire Forever Your Girl album)
Boy Meets Girl - Waiting For a Star to Fall
Fine Young Cannibals - Good Thing
Def Leppard - Rocket

This stuff is right up my alley. I'm doing a whole blog on 1991 MusiCards. Fun to take a trip back to the late 80s/early 90s and relive the music of my youth.

You can look up the year of the top song charts for the year you turned 12, that's what I did. I also jogged my memory by thinking, "hmmm, 12, I was in 6th grade and went into 7th. What music did I like?". I may have an abnormally good memory for some things. I think because I kept a lot of stuff like records, magazines, concert tickets, I took a lot of pictures with my Kodak camera that had the cube flash and then my Minolta pocket camera that had 110 film. I have the dates written on the back of my photos and if there are people, I named who was in the photos.
I remembered a few because I have the 45s and albums.

That song I Don't Like Mondays has a tragic story behind it which I'm sure you're aware of but maybe not everyone else.

Yeah, I only learned about the story behind the song a few years ago though. Completely changed my listening experience.

The same goes for an old song by a London boy band called East 17. They released a Christmas song called Stay Now which I always considered to be on a par with their other crappy songs. Then a long time Later one of the dancers explained that the song was written by his band mate about his brother, who’d committed suicide. Now it gets me choked up every time it comes on the car radio.

I was a 100% Kiss fan when I was 12.

Dynasty came out. It wasn't their best record. This was just after the solo records so their decline was coming fast for me. I probably stopped being a fan when I was 13. I took all the pictures that I cut out of magazines off the wall.
