Perry: "I reached out to Eric" + "No more Jane's/PFP albums"

#1 Post by parklife03 » Sat Nov 14, 2020 2:02 am

This interview is from last month, but I didn't see it here. Originally from Uncut magazine, then quoted here: https://www.music-news.com/news/UK/1349 ... tion-album

..

Perry Farrell rules out another Jane's Addiction album

The 61-year-old rocker reunited with both the ‘Mountain Song' hitmakers and his other band, Porno for Pyros, during lockdown for a livestream event in place of the cancelled Lollapolooza festival and while he is open to working with both again, he can't see them making a full record together.

Asked if there will ever be another Jane's Addiction album, he told Uncut magazine: "I don't see albums. I just see working on music song to song, with different collaborators.

"Would I work with the Porno guys again? In a heartbeat. Same goes with Jane's.

"We're all friends, even Eric [Avery]. I know people think Eric and I don't like each other but I recently reached out to Eric and we talked about art and music and family. So yeah, I'm almost friends with everybody again."

The veteran musician admitted he regrets "wasting” decades on his drug addiction because although he had a great time, he could have been more creatively fulfilled.

Asked if he has any regrets, he said: "Honestly, I wish that I was not so f***** up because I wasted years. I could have done more. I enjoyed myself, it was wild.

"But now that I look at the professional side of my life, I wish I'd have put even 20 of those years into something more productive.

"The mystics say when you have a vice -sex addict, drunk, doper, doesn't matter - it takes you on average 40 years to overcome your addiction. And they're right in my case."

And while Perry still occasionally dabbles with intoxicants, he never goes too far.

He explained: "Drugs are not overrated but they are definitely abused. I like to have a drink or two and smoke some weed and on occasion do psychedelics.

"I liked ecstasy when I was DJing but I quickly went from one pill to four or five pills and then I felt like I had holes in my brain, so I had to take a break from it!

"I'm quite interested in microdosing on mushrooms. God put on this earth all these plants - the pharmacopoeia - if we need a little stimulation. Heroin is all right, but then you go and get addicted and that sucks. Now that I'm 61, I have to have a nice balance in my life.

"I've got a family I have to take care of. So I can get out there sometimes, but not as much as I did. And I've found that I'm more creative than I gave myself credit for - I didn't have to be that f***** up."

It seemed obvious there was some level of reconciliation when they were posting those Eric pics. I still wonder if they were planning on touring with RHCP. And I'd gladly pay money for an all original (sort of) lineup combo tour with both bands. And bring Pete and Watt along. I'd love to see Jane's go out on a high note.

I would like to hear the two songs they recorded during the NIN/JA time. I guess I wasn't casual that they put some seconds of "Laughing Beats".

I'm glad to hear that and good on Perry for initiating. Always felt like that feud or whatever you want to call was sad. I do think there were talks with RHCP before covid hit, and I would not be surprised at all if a tour like that came together in a few years.

It's more important that the relationship between them is better now, but for God's sake can we just get one more fucking song from the original lineup? Look, X did it after how many years? And they actually got in a studio together and played. It ain't over til it's over.

bauhaus managed it. It would require Perry actually listening to Eric, because Eric understands what the soul of Janes is/was. It will never happen. :banghead:

Knew something was up- always good to hear when people mend fences in general.

As far as not making more albums with janes/porno he's said that before and then we got TGEA so who knows...

Maybe the planets are aligning for something cool- ink master is cancelled, so it'd be cool if everyone could get together for one song just for the fun of it.

This article seems encouraging too

Well, here's to hoping that Summer 2021 will be great. We'll all be vaccinated and tons of bands will be playing shows. Hopefully we'll see some good JA one more time.

I think 2021 is going to be a write-off as far as major concerts go. There's some bands that have made or are tentatively looking at doing some shows next Summer, but the basic uncertainty going into next year still has a lot of acts scared to commit. Venues need to be booked and the touring machine especially for big arena or stadium level tours has to get rolling like now to be ready for next Summer.

Keith Richards made a comment recently in some interview where he said The Stones and other bands that have been around for several decades or more will likely call it a day if they don't get back to playing live in the next year. The clock is ticking in many ways for guys like AC/DC, U2, RHCP, Metallica, GnR, pretty much any band that's been around since the late 80's or longer. Several years off the road, unable to play together, rust sets in, interest drops off, members get older and die.

Yeah it's nice he's talking to people, but his voice is shot, his attitude isn't that which fosters true collaboration and basically it would be the Trent sessions all over again. ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.......................
