JA March 2023 Tour Thread
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
It's the type of song that's been missing since Eric. I would for you 2.0. it's a lullaby. I'm surprised they introduced new material with this, but I like it.
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
Not bad. It reminded me of Bob Marley, dipped in Songs Yet To Be Sung.
I did wonder if it would be something low-key, possibly Eric playing acoustic on Jane Says, and then on this.
The guitar role sounded under-developed. Not convinced by JK.
Difficult to place such a mellow song in the rest of the set I suppose, maybe swap out Kettle Whistle? As a curtain song it's too low on intensity.
C - I look forward to receiving an improved submission before term finishes.

Those Twitter clips Creep posted felt lacklustre. There seems to be a lack of chemistry between the band and JK.
I can't see it lasting. And if they do stick with him, might have to concede to playing smaller audiences.

LIttle Frank Sinatra put everyone to sleep with that mess
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
Josh is most certainly not the weak link here. The song sounded great. The lyrics and vocal delivery….
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
The very opening reminded me a little of RHCP, 'Under the Bridge' and I also heard the Bob Marley.
It's probably just the recording but I didn't really care for PF's vocals, it seemed too low and the drums too strong at times. Lyrics..meh.
Overall, not a bad, still a work in progress. It is the very first time played live too. I also think it's brave to use a new song as a closer.

I liked it more than I thought. The lyrics weren’t cringy and it has a nice mellow vibe. It worked for me, but I want to hear what else they’ve been working on.
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
You guys realize that’s road from Life.Time right?
Eric said he wanted to rework it back in 2014

That bassline is the song road from 2013
Also always thought this would have made a great Janes song so glad it’s being repurposed

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
Yeh, I noticed too. Wasn’t it originally a Jane’s idea from back during the Reznor sessions?
Anyway.. I like the vibe, rhythm section sounds great. The lyrics in the first verse are a little cringy. As someone mentioned it’s Ernest and genuine. It’s cool. My only criticism is Josh’s guitar parts add absolutely nothing to it. Just atmospheric fumbling.. kinda ‘poke and prey’ stuff. It’s sorely missing a top line… and Dave Navarros magic.
Still, I’m excited to hear more new stuff.
I guess it also clears up the fact that Dave clearly hasn’t contributed to writing a guitar part/s in the studio.. and JK is playing it. No way that’s a DN line.
Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
I really like it- very endearing and raw and what I hoped it would be. Far cry from another soulmate- we just needed Eric basslines all along
You can tell it’s still being worked on, there’s basically no guitar on this

Guitar sounds good with the effects he used. Bass and drums are ok. Perry sounds to low in pitch, would like to hear how it would sound a couple notes higher with a more punk edge to his vocal delivery. He can sound higher when he wants to, like in this trackthoreau wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 4:37 amHere we go -

Song sounds better than the ones they did with Duff.

Some old basslines style from Polar Bear (Leader, Lick) or Eric solo stuff with Kind Heaven /Satellite Party vocal on it, plus some Josh guitar effect
I don't understand how people get excited about this

Love it. It has sort of a 90’s trip vibe. Sounds like something they could have done with Eric during relapse had he decided to re-join then.
Guitar does meander a bit but there are parts of it that seem firmed up. Overall it’s cool and atmospheric. There is one part towards the end that does sound kind of DN to me in terms of note choices. Maybe he’s worked a little bit on this one.

Hard to tell from the Whores clip, but I think I prefer Troy on guitar. Hopefully Trip Away ends up on youtube. That is some fucking set by the way!

I liked Troy on Whores a lot too. However, it seems like JK plays BCS way better. Im annoyed there isn’t anything on YouTube yet with other songs

It's missing an explosion imo ...

I absolutely love that new song… would work as either Jane’s or PFP. Yea, interesting enough for me to post after years.

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
JK’s solos suck, his stage presence is lame and he’s too ugly for this band. I thought he’d fit better than Troy the Boy, but nah.
New song has a cool vibe. God save Eric Avery.

Was there right at the front stage right in front of Eric. Had a great night! Thoughts:
The set list was better than I could have imagined! Trip Away, Kettle Whistle, Chip Away, Then She Did... Fucking A
Eric was loving it. Smiling, locked in with Steven. Him and Perry - the chemistry and mutual respect is back. And he was an absolute monster.
Speaking of being a monster, Steven was an octopus. He was great!
Perry was relaxing, on something strong, and feeling it. He is an amazing frontman, still. His voice was great for most of the night, but did get weaker towards the end.
Josh was ok. He's pretty rough and sloppy compared with Dave. Well, actually Dave is on another planet. For me, Dave was missed. To be fair, even Perry said at one point that this was Josh's first full gig with them, so basically go easy on him :-) He just doesn't have the chops, or deft touch that Dave brings.
New song - the base line is very Jane's. Perry was reading the lyrics. You could tell its a work in progress. I thought it had potential, but not there yet.
I took my teenage boys last night. They started off a little cynical, as teenagers are - but they were up and ocking pretty quickly! Their take: Eric is cool, Steven is amazing, Josh was good, and Perry is weird
I'll post some pics later.

Re: JA March 2023 Tour Thread
Yes, but it needs to be the right kind. I don't want to hear any more songs where Perry goes full Bono. This one's interesting because he sticks to the lower register for the most part. There is something missing, but it's hard to nail down exactly what it is. I think, basically, it's not a "hit" song. There's no real hook. There's no energy. I'd have expected EA's line to come through a bit louder and heavier and drive the song forward a bit more. It might just be the recording that makes it harder to hear that part of the mix, though. Maybe a little slightly extended tribal-ish rhythm section breakdown would make it feel more like Jane's Addiction.Mescal wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 8:19 amYup, my thoughts too.eye wrote: ↑Mon Mar 06, 2023 7:24 am
