It's not just that he didn't move much...he's an older guy, maybe has some injuries, can't hold that against him...and there were points in the show during the songs themselves when I was completely swept away by the entire experience...but between songs he just seemed like a shadow...none of his banter landed (I've laughed with Perry when he talks crazy in the past...I felt bad for him this time...he sounded out of touch and lost.. no sparkle in his eye, no wit or attempt to 'play with' or 'invoke' the crowd...it was like a Biden press conference where his handlers just tried to keep him moving along). The show was so fantastic, I just am seeing Perry drop off the cliff and this will be a good point to keep my memories intact (and go out on a high...incredible opportunity to hear some BANGING music)...Hokahey wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 8:14 amI think that’s the wrong way to look at it. It wasn’t much better backstage. I did not see him smile one time. It was just him, Etty and a couple of handlers. It’s almost looked like Etty was helping him walk a little. It was a bit of a bizarre sight to be leaving the venue where the artists do and looking back and seeing him walking alone with Etty towards the bus and looking frail. I felt intrusive. In fact, I purposely took the stairs instead of getting on the elevator with him. It felt like those two were not wanting to be around anyone.Everybody's Friend wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 9:31 amIt's not just that he didn't move much...he's an older guy, maybe has some injuries, can't hold that against him...and there were points in the show during the songs themselves when I was completely swept away by the entire experience...but between songs he just seemed like a shadow...none of his banter landed (I've laughed with Perry when he talks crazy in the past...I felt bad for him this time...he sounded out of touch and lost.. no sparkle in his eye, no wit or attempt to 'play with' or 'invoke' the crowd...it was like a Biden press conference where his handlers just tried to keep him moving along). Ultimately, hopefully it’s just something minor and maybe I’m even reading into too much to what I was seeing. Despite anything that has happened over the years. It’s hard to not feel like these guys are family in a weird way. And I felt sad thinking about him not being himself.
I can tell you though, Pete and perk could not have been in better moods. It also seems a bit hard to imagine that they would be so chipper if there was something really bad happening with him.

But, as all have attested, what an awesome show, I felt lucky to have been able to catch that in person...if a soundboard ever surfaces...?

Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
The guy tapped into the real mojo on the JA shows without Dave, so whatever it is that’s sapped his energy is pretty recent. Could be just a matter of age, all the mileage adding up. I’m hoping he’ll catch a final(?) wind with Jane’s, preferably with Dave in his rightful position. But we’ve seen him phone it in with the 1.0 lineup, so my hopes aren’t particularly high.Hokahey wrote: ↑Wed Feb 28, 2024 11:23 amIt wasn’t much better backstage. I did not see him smile one time. I can’t quit thinking about that show. I wonder how many people that never saw P4P live are seeing them in a different light now. What a fucking band they put together.

Show day!
Hope everybody packed their parkas...it's chilly today!
Just in time for the concert, I have an eye hemorrhage. My eye was a little red yesterday and when I woke up today-

Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
I noticed PFP did a little private show before the main show in Chicago the other day
Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
Went to the Detroit show, showed up as PFP came to the stage. Crowd of 80% guys was bigger then I expected .
The set was good, band was tight with alot of energy. They were at a 8 , Perry was at a 6. Not sure if he was using backing tracks. only say that because when he did his banter his voice seemed
shallow and muffled either way , Glad I went . Overall a great time
Really miss this guy

Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
Just took a look at the ticket situation for Bensalem on Saturday. A week ago it looked pitiful. Now it's close to sold out. Either a lot of people were waiting for prices to drop or the casino begged gamblers to go lol
Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
My first time to see P4P and I was not disappointed!
More people than I expected. The capacity of the venue is 2500 and it looked very close to sold out. The venue had excellent sound which made the band sound flawless!
Perry was in fine form. I thought he sounded pretty good when he sang but when he spoke, his voice was quite raspy. I didn't see the frailty that others have mentioned. He seemed very happy and happy to be performing as did the rest of the guys, smiling the entire time. Even Etty was not annoying.
Not much of a review, I know but a great night out and if it is truly the final tour they are going out on a high note.
Hype was there too but we didn't get to see each other.
A few snaps..no recordings.

Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
I had the most stressful day at work, dealing with a certain Canadian as he was dying yesterday.
I got to the venue about 8:15 while Tigerclub was playing. They said their merch was cash only as their machines were not working in Canada. They also opened up the floor to 20 questions lol
I was standing left of the sound board on a stair, because I am short haha. I think I was the only brown person there too. When Perry stepped on stage, a chorus of "I you Perry"s were heard.
Echoing Artemis, I did not see any frailty in Perry, and his voice was raspy during his many rambles. He was very chatty and joking around with the crowd and with Pete and was in a great mood.
They all sounded so good. Tahitian Moon was the second last song, and I teared up at the end. Stress of the day, finally seeing P4P live, a religious experience, I don't know???

Glad you all had a great time. I think it is really neat that many are having a cathartic experience finally getting to see P4P live… I know I did.
Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
So, I've been wanting to see PfP since they started. For whatever reason, the universe never let it happen, until now in Ventura.
My god - live, they are fucking amazing! What a tight, in the pocket, band. I took my son who I also took to see Janes in Bakersfield. His take as a twenty year old? He thought they were better than Janes - he said more fun, more tribal. A pit did form and during Cursed Male in particular it got pretty wild. Packed venue and everyone felt like they were up for it. My take on Perry that night - he was on something, and you could see it coming on as their set progressed. At times he looked blissed out, others just super concentrating to hold it together. I personally thought he was the same Perry, just old. Which I am more than fine with. Fuck though - back to the band: Pete was just astonishing - ripping out solos, mile wide grin, and just groovin'. I've seen him over the years playing solo and playing for Peter Murphy, but here was like he had ascended. Watt - his face and his playing - what a legend! Perk was who he is - a monster! He was pumped and grabbed the mike right. They all clearly had a great time, as did we all.

Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
Psyched you all are having such fulfilling experiences at these shows. I’m sure I’d go if there was a Portland date. Watt is such a special guy, I’d probably go just to see him. I interviewed him ages ago for a weekly and we talked for hours about everything from Beats to BÖC, but most of it didn’t make my article because it was too nerdy, haha. He gave me a bear hug at the show with fuckin’ tears in his eyes! Anyway, the guy is a true champion.
I’m glad Pete and Perk are having fun, too. Bummer I’ll miss it, but holding out hope for “final wind” Jane’s shows with Dave.

Re: P4P FAREWELL Tour Dates.....
Fuck! Goosebumps watching this. Never seen it..will need to go back to watch in full. Oddly, rather than compare the 'decline' from then to now, seeing this somehow adds to the lingering memories of the two shows I saw. In a good way.
The experiences of Ventura and and Belasco were night and day different for me, but now with some distance and even reading the various posts above, it feels like such a fucking privilege to see them now, no matter how battle-worn they are as a unit. They had magic, it's in the music and still lives on. PFP never really toured in the UK, just a handful of dates in 1993 and a promo in 1996, so I had only ever seen them once, and that was at a festival. Despite the tour postponement, Martyn's exit, Perry, etc., this has been such a gift.
I really miss that guy, too - but glad we still have him for a little while yet. Frail, fucked up, raspy, or otherwise.
