World Cup

#1 Post by Mescal » Tue May 27, 2014 3:22 am

Is there already a World cup thread? If not, there really should be :)

Especially since Belgium is also playing!

Larry, I saw Januzaj play for the first time yesterday. He played one half with the Belgian team in a 'friendly' game against Luxemburg. And I must say, I was really impressed! I mean, I've heard a lot about him, but never actually saw him play, but he sure knows what to do with a football

Hey hey!

I saw bits and pieces of him yesterday, I feel proud-ish as a United supporter. Only 18 years old... damn. I hope he goes on to become one of the best in the world.

On my side, everything's ready for the trip. Only 3 weeks to go.

It's a shame that we're most likely not going to see Falcao and that Suárez and Vidal might not be fit to play a big part in the tournament.

I'm really not that arsed about England. I much prefer club football to International football. They may get through the group stages, but I doubt they'll go much farther. The football is shite, the players are shite and this whole country goes fucking mental about shite.

Did you watch the CL final on Saturday? I thought Atletico were extremely unlucky.

Yeah, quite a hard-fought match. I agree with you, but I thought this CL final was just written to be won by Real Madrid. I had a bet with my gf's brother, so when Ramos scored I jumped out of bed and knew the game was as good as gone for Atlético.

But boy, wasn't Bale shite throughout the game... I even felt bad for the guy, but in the end he won the game.

Yup. I also thought Cristiano's celebration was cringe-worthy... it's not like he scored the decisive goal or anything, he just scored a penalty when the match was absolutely decided. No need to take that shirt off, as nice as his body can be.

It reminded me of the time Alexis Sánchez scored his first goal for Barcelona. Took his shirt off for no apparent reason. Ridiculous.

Yeah, Atletico should have won that game.

Courtois should have held the cup up high

Chile has confirmed their 23-men squad, in which you will find only ONE central defender. He is 30 years old and not expected to be a starter. Their back 3 will most likely be comprised by a right back, a left back and Gary Medel (a defensive midfielder) playing as center back. If Gary doesn't play there, one of the full backs will most likely play as CB, being replaced by another full back.

This is gonna be quite fun.

To be fair to him, he touches the ball first, but still a bit rash...

World Cup in Toronto is great. The people REALLY get into it. There is a neighbourhood for nearly every country represented...if not a 'hood, a bar at least. I love seeing all the cars with the flags of the country they are supporting. This morning I saw a Spanish and Croatian flag. The most obnoxious fans, imho, are the Portuguese and Italian fans. They cruise around with their souped cars and giant flags, hollering shit out the windows.

Julio César, the goalkeeper of the Brazilian national team, plays for Toronto FC (in one of the strangest transfers I've ever seen.)

This morning I was really surprised when I passed by an empty retail space on the concourse level of the office tower I work in:

Image

The empty space was converted into this lounge. The building management must be big fans to do this. That's not all...

Image

The floors had these decals all over.

For people in the eastern time zone, the game times work out well. Brazil is only 1 hour ahead. I think the latest game is 9pm(est).

On my way back home, I saw some guys selling things like tshirts, green, white and red wigs and even tricolor (sp?) chalks. It kinda excited me a bit, but what's the point? Our team is always a disappointment  Maybe I could get a chalk to support Italy :noclue:. Anyway I am really looking forward to the inauguration.

Pffff

The match was sold. That penalty ...... you could see with your eyes closed that that was a schwalbe. So you have 6 refs, a gazillion camera's, a walkie talkie, even a special spray for the free kicks ... but no one noticed the schwalbe. The guy should have gotten a yellow card for that fall. It wasn't even a close call.

Then the way Neymar kisses the sky after making that penalty ....

Pfff,

to say it in a Etty way:
