As much as I am NOT a fan of Billy, I remember seeing him in a recent interview where he talks about his peers from the 90's basically doing nostalgia shows and conforming to expectations by basically trotting out the hits night after night...and I have to say I'm glad he's at least trying to do something different. At the end of the day after you've given people years of the same thing I see nothing wrong with at least making an attempt at playing around with arrangements, etc...maybe it is about ego, but if they were to do what Jane's does, people would complain about that too...that being said I have heard that Billy can be a total ass with the crowd at shows...so who the hell knows?Pandemonium wrote:I think this tour ('98) was the turning point where Billy really started fucking with audience expectations, playing wildly different (and not always successful) arrangements of well known songs and often stupefying pacing and song selections in the setlists. I don't know if he thinks he's Springsteen who can actually pull off this sort of thing or just has a level of contempt for his audience. Judging by many of the shows since '07, it seems it's more a case of ego and contempt.

The tour with the meandering, 1/2 hour long Pink Floyd covers during the encore and virtually no hits and the following tour with the onstage wrestling gimmick seem to push the Billy Meter pegged towards "Ass."Essence_Smith wrote:As much as I am NOT a fan of Billy, I remember seeing him in a recent interview where he talks about his peers from the 90's basically doing nostalgia shows and conforming to expectations by basically trotting out the hits night after night...and I have to say I'm glad he's at least trying to do something different. OMG...I gotta see the wrestling stuff...I think that's the only thing I liked about him...dude is an unashamed wrestling mark just like me...Pandemonium wrote:The tour with the meandering, 1/2 hour long Pink Floyd covers during the encore and virtually no hits and the following tour with the onstage wrestling gimmick seem to push the Billy Meter pegged towards "Ass."Essence_Smith wrote:As much as I am NOT a fan of Billy, I remember seeing him in a recent interview where he talks about his peers from the 90's basically doing nostalgia shows and conforming to expectations by basically trotting out the hits night after night...and I have to say I'm glad he's at least trying to do something different. The new single "Being Beige" from the album Monuments To An Elegy, due out December 9th:

If you like latter era Pumpkins, you'll probably like this. And if you wish it was still 1993, you'll probably hate this.

It's cookie-cutter Pumpkins. I don't hate the tune but it fades from memory as soon as I'm done hearing it.Tyler Durden wrote:The new single "Being Beige" from the album Monuments To An Elegy, due out December 9th:

Is this the first time Billy's had a male bass player in SP?

Yup...one site's headline was like "Hell Freezes Over: Billy Corgan recruits male bass player".Pandemonium wrote:Is this the first time Billy's had a male bass player in SP?
Seriously though, I don't see why it matters either way.

He played at least one show (under the SP name) with Mark Tulin of the Electric Prunes on bass, as you can see below

Modern Pumpkins are to Siamese Dream what TGEA is to Ritual.
Billy can still write a song. They just sound like crap. Like Perry, and Maynard and Trent - he ditched his trademark vocals for more sing songey crap. And for god's sake Billy, can you bring back the distortion petal/big muff sound for just one record?

Maynard does not make sing songey crap.
Maynard has always been able to sing.

10,000 Days is fucking terrible because of his voice. Not because he can't sing, but because it doesn't fit.Six7Six7 wrote:Maynard does not make sing songey crap.

As one myself, ALL aging rock vocalists end up changing they're approach over time...usually you're just kind of forced because you can't hit it the same as you used to and then it tends to change the way you write the vocal parts...

10,000 Days is terrible because for the most part it's filled with self-indulgent masturbation passed off as TOOL genius that "real fans" "get"...Adurentibus Spina wrote:10,000 Days is fucking terrible because of his voice. Right. I shouldn't have implied that Maynard's voice is the only cause of 10,000 Days' terribleness. I wanted to love that album so much. But I hate it.nausearockpig wrote:10,000 Days is terrible because for the most part it's filled with self-indulgent masturbation passed off as TOOL genius that "real fans" "get"...Adurentibus Spina wrote:10,000 Days is fucking terrible because of his voice. Even seeing 'em live on that tour was terrible.
I saw em during Lateralus which is one of the better shows I've ever seen

Apparently Dave Pajo, the bass player for Corgan's short-lived band Zwan attempted to commit suicide last night following a number of very disturbing, attention seeking posts on his blog and Instagram. Looks like he was broken up over his wife cheating on him although he seems a bit bent to begin with:

I think I'm going to catch this show. I tried to get tickets for Marilyn Manson earlier this year but the show was sold out.

It's depressing to see the bands from my youth all washed up and playing package tours the way bands from the 70s and 80s did in the 90s.
