New Dave Interview
Re: New Dave Interview
Dave knew nothing about the live album.
Who the hell is making this band's decisions if it's not the band members?
------------------------------------------------------------
Ink Master Season 4. Awesome. I actually like this show.
---------------------------------------------------------------
"We try to [change the setlist every night], but at the 11th hour we'll go back to the set we played the night before"
oh, is that really what happens? You have all the rarities ready to go and then you just pull the plug at the last minute. Sure.

Re: New Dave Interview
As bored as Dave looks up there I do honestly believe he would want to play something else just to mix it up hell even if its just a cover. The New Years show before Strays right after Joe Strummer passed and they started playing Should I Stay Or Should I Go was the last show where it looked like they were actually having fun up there.
Re: New Dave Interview
that show is where i said i don't care to ever see them again after it was over lol

Re: New Dave Interview
This interview is an absolute disgrace.
It was fairly obvious to us beforehand...but Dave has now made it clear as day: he simply doesn't give a shit.
I love how Dave's info about "Another Soulmate" being "just a brand new track" with "nothing behind it" totally contradicts Perry's "60 songs and counting" story and that the track is a preview for the next album a la "End To The Lies". Dave says that haven't had any time to work on anything new besides this new single. And Dave knows nothing about the live album.
"You're talking to a guy who wants the least amount of details. I want to know the day I'm leaving and the day I'm coming home. I don't know any stop that we're going to; I don't care. Any stage, any city is cool with me." This is why Jane's Addiction wasn't, isn't, and will never be a U2, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Nine Inch Nails, RHCP, Coldplay, Kings of Leon, etc. And it's because the guys don't care about "the nuances of the business" or anything to do with quality control over their image (or their music now for that matter) or how the band is marketed to people; they just want to travel the beaten path by touring, playing the "hits", and collecting a paycheque.
But I don't hold Dave responsible for this. I genuinely believe that he wanted to go a different route...but has given up the fight with Perry. Perry is the one who created this scenario because he cares more about Lollapalooza (more money) than he does about Jane's Addiction. If he didn't have Lolla, he'd probably show a hell of a lot more care when it comes to Jane's Addiction. He just does whatever is going to give him the biggest return (IE: if Porno had been more bankable than Jane's, we'd be seeing Porno For Pyros reunion #5 when he wasn't tied up with Lolla). It's sad because Perry had more credibility than anyone in 1990...today, he's the biggest sellout of them all.
Hence, Dave spent threes times as much time talking about Ink Master and Dark Matter than he did about what Jane's Addiction is up to these days.

A "brand new track" from 2010. At least Dave doesn't pretend to give a shit.
Re: New Dave Interview
It's all just a business deal at this point.
If Dave has no say or knowledge of what is going on, then I have to believe that 100% of the decisions are being made by Perry and management.
Which is sad.
Perry refuses to be anything other than the band dictator, but he makes really shit decisions.
Credibility ball has just gone flying even further into Eric's court.

Yeah, that NYE show was a big step down from any previous JA show I'd seen up to that night.kv wrote:that show is where i said i don't care to ever see them again after it was over lol

Just to clarify, I didn't mean compared to the other members of JA, I meant compared to his peers in the music industry.Tyler Durden wrote:It's sad because Perry had more credibility than anyone in 1990...today, he's the biggest sellout of them all.

Yup. Kind of makes Dave look worse, considering the shit he talked about Eric on Dark Matter a month or so ago.Six7Six7 wrote:

Re: New Dave Interview
Dave is probably just mad that Eric COULD have stuck around and made Perry feel like Perry makes the other bands members feel, but bailed and left them with an even more power-hungry asshole.

Re: New Dave Interview
If Dave was pissed, he'd be getting high as a motherfucker and it'd show onstage. As it's clear from the interview, he's beyond caring - he's getting a paycheck, he's on a stage in front of a few thousand people every show and can get laid by a different skank every night ... all with little effort. What's to care about at this point? Brand Navarro's on cruise control on his own private two lane highway.Six7Six7 wrote:Dave is probably just mad that Eric COULD have stuck around and made Perry feel like Perry makes the other bands members feel, but bailed and left them with an even more power-hungry asshole.
Re: New Dave Interview
This interview didn’t really tell me anything I didn’t already know. He had no idea they’d released the live album/dvd a few months ago? That’s just sad. The guy went from being one of the most bad-ass rock guitarists of his generation to being a corporate puppet with a lame haircut.
Oh the lolz..
But like Panda said, he’s doing alright for himself by just mailing it in. As long as he doesn’t mind shitting on his own legacy, he’s got himself a pretty good gig.

How many copies did they sell of that album?Six7Six7 wrote:Dave knew nothing about the live album.
5?

Re: New Dave Interview
Dave really seems defeated in this interview when talking about Jane's. He has no interest in "detail", i.e. any band decisions. He doesn't know if 'Another Soulmate' is even for sale yet. He didn't know about the live album. All he wants to do is show up and play the songs. He "wishes" they could play the 'best of' Jane's but is resigned to playing the same songs as the night before.
He's given up the fight and simply doesn't care anymore. I think he realises the band's reputation is in tatters but is aware that ruining it further doesn't matter anymore.
His options are to quit the band and not play live anymore (which he claims to still enjoy) or to just go through the motions. Looks like he's opted for the latter. I wonder if his and Perk's confidence was totally eroded by the Panic Channel episode? It would explain why they don't have it in themselves to quit Jane's.

Re: New Dave Interview
He definitely gave up fighting Perry.
I think everyone has.
They either keep the band together and let Perry ruin their reputation further BUT are able pay their bills, or they break up and let Perry ruin their reputation further with karaoke Jane Says.
lose/lose, but one comes with money.
Either way,

I'm calling shenanigans that Navarro didn't know it was released.
He retweeted everyone who said it was the BEST. SONG. EVAH.

Re: New Dave Interview
Do we know if any of the band look at (or are aware of) this forum in the way they did with xiola?

He hasn't given up the fight. Dave doesn't give a shit. There never was a fight. Dave even said he doesn't care what songs they play. Dave is NOT a Janes fan. Steve and Perry are.
Re: New Dave Interview
I don't buy that. He says in the interview that they try and change the setlist but end up playing the same songs every night. When asked if they'll perform the 'best of Jane's', Dave laughs and says he wishes they would. I don't for one second think that he's pushing to play wildly different setlists but I do think he has an opinion on it. Unfortunately he seems resigned to the fact that Perry's decision is final. Playing different songs requires rehearsal time, which they clearly can't be bothered doing. It's obvious that none of them love it - they just do it as a job.bman wrote:elbuitre wrote:Dave really seems defeated in this interview when talking about Jane's. According to Eric's interview, Dave gave up all his extra-curricular stuff to knuckle down and focus on Jane's after they reformed in 2008. I get the impression he cared then but lost interest as time wore on and old problems re-surfaced.

Didn't Dave have and deal with an addiction to ambien or some similar prescription drug around the time they did the LA area club shows before the Reznor sessions?
