Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
No thanks. This is very disappointing. I can’t believe this band after 30+ years still can’t get their shit together.
As I’ve said before…Pete is only logical replacement. Or Daniel Ash if they decided to go in a different direction.
Even the way this is shared on social media was “baiting”. They show a pic of Dave, then you have to swipe and read through what sounds like him maybe returning, only to be switched out with the delivery of the bad news. If this was 20 years ago, I’d go to one of these shows. But who wants to see the same old 12-15 songs performed (something they’ve been doing forever now) by not even the original lineup; Chaney’s Addiciton 2.0.

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
The first part is kind of ambiguous. Are they saying all four of them are in a great place and that Dave is writing with them but not playing shows?
Man who else can say they’ve stepped in for both John Frusciante and Dave Navarro?

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
Because the first slide was just a black and white pic of Dave, I thought it was gonna be a tragic announcement. Then the second slide was white text on a black background. Def freaked me out for a second.
I’m all for this. And it continues the history of overlapping between JA and RHCP. I just like that conceptually. This is going to be cool to see.

Ambiguous by design. A million dollars says he’s nowhere near any of the rest of the band these days or a recording studio. That’s what adds insult to injury. But hey, at least they’re not blaming this on “long Covid” anymore…but we still don’t know what the hell is going on. It could be depression or addiction…or maybe Dave hates Perry now or something. I guess we’ll find out in another 10-20 years when they reissue their two albums with Warner or whatever.

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
I think it’s something other than Covid. Maybe it’s drugs or something else
It reads like a people hoping for the best, but knowing his return is likely not happening? They are being super respectful but vague which makes me think it’s something they really are concerned with.
It’s a huge bummer, but
I’m glad they made a statement at least. Josh isn’t just a person to play shows — I suspect he’s recording with them
Next communication from then and will probably be some version of “here’s new music our friend Josh stepped in while Dave was taking are of himself”

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
I find this guy pretty underwhelming. Can anyone point to some original music he has recorded with RHCP, some other artist, or solo that gives off a “WOW” factor? I just don’t get it. His two albums with the Chili Peppers seemed kind of pedestrian, if memory serves.
Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
I agree he is definitely in the studio with them
I enjoy his output with RHCP- i like him as a songwriter and if the band is looking to write he has built up chemistry with Eric over the years- I prefer this over Troy for sure. Still sucks we were insanely close to songs with the original lineup

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
Don't be quick to judge based on what he brought to the Chili Peppers. The guitar in that band is minimal by design.
But I saw the dude playing with Pearl Jam last year and he absolutely slayed. He brought a whole lot of energy to a band that already had it anyway. And he was at the Jane's/Pumpkins gig I went to, and I felt played way more in the spirit of Dave than TVL did.
The shows will be great. Don't sleep on them. Klinghoffer is great in a live setting.

Zero, zilch, zip. However, I do think he understands the place and function of the guitar in Jane’s more than Troy. I expect he’ll play the parts more accurately, but nobody can mix the psychedelic goth rock with the Lightning McQueen stuff like Navarro.Tyler Durden wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 8:51 amI find this guy pretty underwhelming. Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
I obsessed with Jane's in 2006-2008 as a middle/High schooler. But as I'm growing older. Who really even still cares for this band? Their music is outdated and their live performances are a joke (Perry Farrells tendency to sing in vocal melodies parallel to what's recorded). I think janes are a perfect example of a cult in music.. should have died off forever in 1991 (with a proper farewell 1997 tour). Janes should have disappeared without a trace and their legacy would not have been tarnished but remain legendary.
Also, TLDR me the drama between Dave and Jane's because the comments sure seem to hint at something other than Dave fighting a flu.

I think this is a good guess.Tyler Durden wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 9:32 amThat’s what they’re saying. But we know that this band’s PR can’t exactly be trusted.
In six months, they’ll tell us he’s now in the band and we’ll then hear new music by them in 2024 (maybe).

I love seeing newer fans have that same “why the fuck do I even care” moment that all fans of Janes have at some point.MicrowavedGerbil wrote: ↑Fri Jan 27, 2023 9:34 amI obsessed with Jane's in 2006-2008 as a middle/High schooler. I liken it to chasing a high. And in fairness to them, they delivered a pretty decent hit of what we are all seeking from them last year. That felt like Janes.
It’s also a little bit of a ritual or habit (winky face) for a lot of us to keep up with the latest Janes drama and hang out with each other here.
For my money, Ritual De Lo Habitual is the greatest rock album ever recorded. That’s an incredible feat. So it’s almost impossible for me to not root for these guys to do something incredible again. And even if last years tour was only 25% of that greatness recaptured, that’s still better than 75% of what’s out there.
Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
I love Josh and I’m excited about this. Josh is everything that Chaney isn’t, he’s been part of the family since the 90s, he’s passionate and animated onstage, he’s really creative and makes music that is different (I do still think really highly of Chris but, in terms of writing, he’s barely been involved with Jane’s and TPC, NHC isn’t that inspiring .
Do ya reckon Dave’s even been over for a mini acoustic jam with the others, like just at someone’s house for fun??? Like in the olden days? I doubt it but…I dunno wtf is going on

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
He’s really the most logical choice for this. They need someone who prolific, creative and a good team player.
I suspect he was the first choice before Troy but Pearl Jam commitments overlapped
Can you imagine that convo- “ah yeah sorry guys I’d love to play JA songs but I’m working with Pearl Jam right now… this sucks”

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
One thing I like about Josh is he his ability to let a song breathe. And it’s usually with reverbs and delays
I think he’ll be a great part of the band.
He really is the opposite of Chaney. He’s a weird dude with a weird presence onstage but he’s got a vibe.
I hope we get song or two soon. Maybe a March ?

Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
Well, I don't know about that, but recently someone posted that Perry Farrell and Dave did a collab with the Sleaford Mods on their new album. I haven't heard the song yet.
Re: Josh Stepping In For Upcoming Shows
Finally a statement from the band.
The tone is hopeful that Dave will return and is welcome to do so if he wishes, but I think Dave is done.
